Junta destroys two bridges in Tedim Township, Chin State

The junta has destroyed two key bridges in and near Chin State’s Tedim Township over two days according to Zoland People’s Defence force (PDF).

Junta troops destroyed the Zalui Creek Crossing Bridge between Tedim and Tonzang townships, at about 1:30 pm on 10 June.

“About 30 junta troops from Tedim township destroyed the bridge yesterday,” said a PDF-Zoland official.

The Zalui Creek bridge, between Tedim and Tonzang townships was a critical part of the local road infrastructure that connected Tedim, Kalay, Cikha, and Tonzang towns. Currently, the wrecked bridge is impassable to cars and trucks, but motorcycles can still pass.

Earlier, on 8 June, junta troops used landmines to blow up the Mansong Suspension Bridge, also in Tedim Township. The bridge, which is seven miles from Tedim Township and on No. (2) road of the India-Myanmar Border Trade route was severely damaged by the explosions.

The Mansong Bridge was made of reinforced concrete and was more than 500 feet long and 30 feet wide and had a load-bearing capacity of 60 tons. The explosion broke the bridge’s suspension wires, damaged the floor and sides of the bridge and rendered it impassable to vehicles.

The destruction of these bridges not only hampers local transportation but also affects logistics and trade routes in northern Chin State, exacerbating the challenges faced by the residents and resistance forces.

Currently, there is fighting in Tedim Township and Chin defence forces have been attacking junta camps in Tedim Township since the evening of 26 May.

An official from Zoland PDF suggested that destroying the bridges was a strategic move by the junta to prevent defence force reinforcements from entering the area.
