Spring Revolution Daily News 16 Jan

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· According to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG, Kawlin District People’s Administration inspected the development activities in Pinlebu Township of Sagaing Region.

· The Ministry of Human Rights- NUG set up a new advisory team, which could feature and support diverse expertise and commitment to human rights.

· In Ayadaw Township of Sagaing Region, there was a meeting among Local People’s Administration, Local Defence Forces and local people on Sunday.

Revolutionary Activities

· In the western part of Ye-U Township in Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces have been invading local villages. Reportedly, about 5,000 people have had to run away.

· At 5:30 pm, there was an attack on the junta army stationing at the traditional medical hospital in Ye-U.

· In Yinmabin Township, a local rally named ‘Let’s never get back in this revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.

· According to the Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar, female political prisoners are being sexually harassed by wardens using the excuse of security, in Maubin Prison of Ayeyarwady Region,.

· In Magwe Region, local defence forces conducted a mortar attack on Anauk Bone Kan (Pyusawti) Village, which had joined the pro-military rally in Pakkoku.

· There were drone attacks on the junta’s inspection gate in Yesagyo of Magwe Region, and the junta court, hospital gate and police station in the town of Salingyi in Sagaing Region.

· In Thabaitgyin Township of Mandalay Region, there were drone bomb attacks on the junta stations including the Tagaung Administration Department and the police station.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· The Arakan Army (AA) has taken Paletwa Town.

· On 11 January, the Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance and the military junta agreed to a temporary ceasefire. The Alliance announced that the military junta had conducted air strikes and shot heavy weapons on the same day.

· On his social media on Monday, the Chief Military Officer of the AA warned the junta soldiers to raise a white flag and give up their arms early if they do not want to be killed.

· In Kutkhine Township of Northern Shan State, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has been attacking the junta army Ka-La-Ya (123) based in Nam Phet Khar.

· The Karen National Union (KNU) has kept their prisoners of war, junta soldiers caught in the battle of Mone Township, following international law.

· On Sunday, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army abolished all the orders and military rules issued by the military junta and their Kokang Team in No. (1) Shan State Special Region in Northern Shan State.

The Military Council

· In Mingalar Taung Nyunt Township of Yangon Region, Mountain Bike Cycling Competition got started in honor of the 77th Union Day at 6:00 am. Reportedly, the junta’s Regional Chief Minister U Soe Thein inaugurated the event by firing a gun.

· In Kayah State, the junta army has suffered great losses and it has had to let go of nearly 90% of the areas it controlled. After that happened, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing called for the establishment of a union based on democracy and federalism with mutual respect, understanding and trust.

· From 9 to 18 January, the University Sports Competition (for the 2023-24 academic year) has been held in Naypyi Taw.

Summary on 16 January

· Turning a blind eye to the real situation, the junta leader just sent a written propaganda statement to Kayah State Day.

· Like Northern Shan State, Rakhine State might soon become an area under the control of revolutionary forces.
