The junta recaptured the Kennedy Peak outpost in Tedim Township, northern Chin State, from Zoland People’s Defence Force (PDF) early in the morning of 18 June 2024.

At approximately 3:30 am, more than 100 junta troops raided the Kennedy Peak Outpost, on the Tedim to Kalay road. According to a Zoland PDF representative who spoke to Mizzima, their forces were forced to retreat after a two-hour firefight.

The representative said: “The soldiers arrived in force at 3:30 in the morning and engaged in combat until 5:30. There were casualties on the military [junta] side. However, the Zoland PDF forces managed to escape unharmed.”

Zoland PDF initially captured the Kennedy Peak outpost on 21 November 2023, killing three junta soldiers and capturing a further 13 soldiers, including a junta major. Since then there has been fighting at the outpost as the junta has tried to recapture it.

Military analysts suggest that the nearby Taingen Outpost, also in Tedim Township on the Tedim-Kalay road, is likely to be targeted next.

According to a People’s Defence Army (PDA) representative junta troops are heading to Taingen Village to attack the Taingen Outpost. Three cars of junta soldiers set off from Kalay to Taingen Village along the Kalay to Tedim Road on 15 June, their whereabouts are currently unknown.

Another column of soldiers is marching from Kalay to Taingen Village along forest paths. They are currently about three miles outside Kalay Town, according to the PDA representative.
