The NGO Justice for Myanmar has criticized the Australian government for deliberately or mistakenly included the illegal Myanmar junta in plans for a special meeting it is hosting.

As the NGO noted on 22 December in a post on X, Australia is hosting an ASEAN-Australia special summit in 2024 and sent its planning document to the illegal military junta for input.

Justice for Myanmar points out that the Myanmar junta is a “terrorist organization” and not the government of Myanmar.

They called on Australia to stop legitimising it.

It is unclear under what circumstances the call to Naypyidaw was made.
