Lisu youth from around the world, under the Lisu Youth Congress (LYC), have denounced the human rights violations perpetrated by the Myanmar military junta.

The LYC was formed on 4 December 2023. The statement on behalf of the LYC was released on 8 February.

The LYC is rooted against the military’s dictatorship and stands for the Lisu ethnic’s rights, equality, and justice. The LYC says it is in a revolutionary battle of the Lisu people against the Burmese military with the aim of forging a Federal Democracy.

The LYC is aware of the dangers the Lisu people face in terms of racial, religious, and sexual divisions, and concerned how capitalism can negatively affect the people.

The congress is focused on preventing discrimination and oppression and preserving Lisu literature, culture and the environment.

“Therefore, we, the Lisu Youth Congress – LYC, will carry out our duties including driving out the Burmese military from our land in order to develop our people. And we request every Lisu national across the globe to join us in developing our Lisu society,” the statement concludes.
