AA takes control of Ponnagyun Town, Rakhine State

The Arakan Army (AA) took control of Ponnagyun Town on the Yangon to Sittwe highway in Rakhine State, following heavy fighting on 4 March.

The AA said that it took control of Ponnagyun Town after it captured the last remaining junta base in town from the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 550.

It is the seventh town that the AA has taken control of, and it is only 20 miles (32km) from the Rakhine State capital, Sittwe.

The AA also controls the towns of Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Maybon, and Pauktaw in Rakhine State, and Paletwa in Chin State.

The AA is also currently fighting offensives against the junta in the towns of Buthidaung, Maungdaw, Rathedaung, Ramree, and Kyaukphyu in northern Rakhine State.

The AA has said that it wants to capture all the junta military camps in Rakhine State.
