Spring Revolution Daily News for 27 April 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In a meeting of the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration on 24 April, Union Prime Minister Man Win Khine Than called on the responsible personnel on the ground to focus on the supply of rations for the forces and the reserve rations.
  • At 1:00 pm on 24 April, there was a meeting between the Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration-NUG and Township People’s Administration from Mandalay Region and Magway Region.
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration and District People’s Administration Teams from Sagaing Region and Magway Region.
  • In Hpapun District of Karen State, there were attacks on the junta units such as Ka-Ma-Ya (434), Ka-La-Ya (19), the local police station and other junta camps on Thursday. According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, the town was under the control of the revolution forces.
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, People’s Defence Forces arrested the leader and the second leader of the militia from Kyone Nyae Village. While questioning them on 23 April, the militia leaders tried to grab guns. Consequently, there were exchanges of fire and both of them died.

Revolution Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, Ma Lwin Cho Myint, former Secretary General of Sagaing Technological University, was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Reportedly, her mother is also in detention.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a combined rally of Yinmabin North and local people protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Monywa Township, there was an attack with 40mm grenades on the members of Pyusawti Militia from Tawpu Village while they were demanding money on the Monywa-Mandalay Road on Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, two junta members died.
  • In Monywa Township, there was an attack via drone and rockets on the junta’s Northwest Military Headquarters at about 7:00 pm on 24 April. Reportedly, a large number of junta soldiers including officers died.
  • In the north of Kalay, the mortars fired by the junta army fell and exploded in Pyindaw-U Village on Wednesday and Thursday. Reportedly, four people including two children lost their lives.
  • In Khin-U Township, the mortars fired by the junta army fell and exploded in Shwepyitha Village on Thursday. Reportedly, a local woman named Daw Aye Sein aged 60 lost her life.
  • In Magway Region, a junta soldier from the unit stationed at Pakkoku Technological University was shot dead.
  • According to Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar, the military junta arrested and took action against five staff including officers of Myitkyina Prison, who had been involved in the shooting and riot inside prison.
  • In Pekone Township of Karenni State, the junta army arrested, ill-treated and killed five local people.
  • The Independent Press Council of Myanmar called for a guarantee of security and the right to gather news freely for the press people in armed conflict zones of ethnic and other areas. They also called on the revolution organizations with the aspiration of a federal democratic nation to respect and practice suitable media standards.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • In Mindat Township of Southern Chin State, the junta army conducted an air strike on Wam Mathu Hospital at about 8:00 pm Thursday. According to Mindat CDF, at least four people lost their lives.
  • On 10 April, a junta soldier from Mindat brought three guns and defected to the local CDF. Reportedly, he was rewarded 100 lakh MMK.
  • In Kachin State, the new sign of the town was set up on entrance to Laiza, the headquarters of Kachin Independence Army.
  • In Karen State, a combined force of Karen National Liberation Army attacked and seized the two junta camps based in Hpapun simultaneously on the morning of 24 April. According to the Karen National Union, weapons were also confiscated.
  • In Mone Township of Bago Region, six displaced people got injured as they stepped on mines.
  • In Thandwe Township of Rakhine State, there was heavy fighting between the Arakan Army (AA) and the junta army near Tha Htay Hydro Power Project on Friday morning. Reportedly, the junta navy constantly fired heavy weapons.
  • In Ahm Township, Thandwe Township, Buthidaung Township and Maungtaw Township of Rakhine State, there were heavy battles between the junta army and the AA.
  • On Thursday, Danu PDF (1003) announced that they strongly condemn the junta’s recruitment by force in Danu areas such as Ywa Ngan, Kalaw, Pindaya, Yatsaut and Naungcho.
  • In Phasaung of Karenni State, the junta army unit Ka-La-Ya (134) has been left alone in town. On the other hand, the revolution forces still have not been able to seize the town. According to the sources of the Karenni revolution, there was still heavy fighting on 23 April.
  • In Monekoe of Northern Shan State, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) sealed off the office of the Kachin Independence Army on 23 April.
  • On Thursday, the European Union expressed their concern for the case in which 10 people had been sentenced to death and 3 of them had been executed by the MNDAA.

The Military Council

  • In a meeting on Thursday, Chinese Minister of People’s Security told the junta Minister of Home Affairs that they would like to deeply combat cross-border crimes such as gambling and drug dealing.
  • According to the junta Union Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, the forestation of Myanmar covered 42.19% of the country in 2020 and the annual depletion of the forests from 2010 to 2020 was 0.96% of the areas with over 700,000 acres depleted every year.
  • The junta Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation said that the farmland without any farm activities for two years and above must be confiscated.
  • The junta Minister of Industry said that they would cooperate with oil businesses to produce high quality edible oil from the oil crops.
  • According to a director of the junta’s Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the temperature will continue to rise in the middle of the country and the delta region until the end of April.
  • On Thursday, the junta Union Election Commission announced that they had approved of the registration of Peace Service Party as a political party.
  • According to the junta Agricultural Department, over 15 acres of monsoon paddy will be grown in 2024-2025 fiscal year.
  • With a great loss in battles against the EAOs, the military junta started to use their drone force for counter attacks.
  • In Hinthada of Ayeyarwady Region, six men were arrested on 22 April and sent to interrogation.
  • The military junta just opens Ma Hlwe Taung Inspection Gate on Yay-Dawei Road for five hours a day. Consequently, passenger cars and trucks have been congested there.
  • In Myawaddy Township of Karen State, the military junta still has blocked off No. (1) and No. (2) Friendship Bridges on the Thailand-Myanmar Border.
  • In Aunglan Township of Magway Region, 60 travelers were arrested at the junta inspection gate on Aunglan-Shwe Pan Daw Road at about 10:00 am Thursday. Reportedly, their families had to pay 50 lakh MMK for the release of each person. For those who could not pay, they were taken away for military service.
  • In Kyaik Mayaw Township of Mon State, the junta army set fire to Dama That Village. After that, they threatened local people that there would be such damages if the revolution forces enter the village and the villagers accept the revolution forces.
  • Reportedly, rifles, pistols and bullets were confiscated from Myint Hlaing, the former Minister of Agriculture who had been arrested for allegedly planning to assassinate the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing. Regarding it, some junta army officers and former generals have been interrogated.
