BNI-Myanmar Peace Monitor’s Report reveals ‘Operation 1027’ took five years to prepare

Operation 1027, which forced the Myanmar junta to surrender many towns in northern Shan State recently, took years to prepare, the BNI-Myanmar Peace Monitor says, quoting Dr. Nyo Twan Awng, the vice deputy commander-in-chief of the Arakan Army (AA).

This was stated in the Operation 1027 and Trajectory of Spring Revolution report issued by the BNI-Myanmar Peace Monitor (BNI-MPM) on 30 April.

In order to carry out such a large-scale operation like the Operation1027, the military operation was conceived for about five years, Dr. Nyo Twan Awng answered during an interview with the BNI-MPM.

Although the preparation of each group for the operation and the consultation of the operation strategy with one another took about four years, the operation was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he said.

“The military coup changed the Myanmar national’s military and political thoughts and views. These views and participation by the public become our strength,” the quote of Dr. Nyo Twan Awng, mentioned in the report.

Operation 1027 implemented by the Three Brotherhood Alliance consisting of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), and Arakan Army (AA) was the most successful one in the history of Myanmar’s authoritarian revolution, the BNI-MPM report says citing the statements of Myanmar military analysts.

Although the momentum of Operation 1027 has calmed down in northern Shan State due to Chinese intervention, only 28% of the operations have been prevented, and the remaining over 67% continued vigorously in Rakhine State and Paletwa Region, Chin State, the BNI-MPM reported.

In an interview with the BNI-MPM, Dr. Hla Kyaw Zaw, a political and military analyst, remarked that the opening of a military front by the Arakan Army in Rakhine State at this time is a very strategic step.

Moreover, as the Operation 1027 is winning battle after battle, Dr. Nyo Twan Awng claimed this to be “unwilling to stop” and also added the willingness to occupy Muse, 105 Mile, Lashio, Pyin Oo Lwin, and other junta’s camps.

The report showed that the impact of the Operation 1027 is not only defeating the junta militarily but also causing embarrassment in the political and diplomatic arena.

Since the beginning of the operation, 54 townships across Myanmar have been captured by the revolutionary forces.

That number is 16 % of the total townships in Myanmar.

The report says that Operation 1027 sets an example of the unity of the Three Brotherhood Alliance.

The Three Brotherhood Alliance led Operation 1027 exemplified the revolutionary strength of “unity, solidarity and cooperation”, offering valuable lessons for the urgent resolution of national unity issues, the report said.
