Spring Revolution Daily News for 25 May 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • At 10:30 am Friday, the International Aid Coordination Commission (IACC) of the NUG conducted a meeting. Present on the occasion were the Acting President of the NUG, Union Prime Minister, Union Ministers and Deputy Ministers.
  • On 22 May, Union Minister of Human Rights-NUG met with Mr.Joseph Wong, the Vice Chair of University of Toronto (International Affairs).
  • In Canada, a delegation led by the Minister of Human Rights-NUG and the Deputy Minister attended the launching ceremony of the book titled “Putting Women Up: Gender Equality and Politics in Myanmar” at the University of Ottawa.
  • On Thursday, the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration conducted a meeting.
  • In the international meeting on migration, Myanmar Ambassador to the UN U Kyaw Moe Tun called on the host countries to properly receive those who have run away from Myanmar due to inhumane violence of the junta army.

Revolution Activities

  • According to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), nearly 200,000 people have been displaced in Rakhine State and Paletwa Township of Chin State due to heavy fighting in Rakhine State.
  • In No. (1) Military Region of People’s Liberation Army, the medical team provided healthcare to 250 local people including the elderly and the monks.
  • In Natoegyi Township of Mandalay Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta’s inspection gate on Pyinsi Road Section. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and 6 others were injured.
  • In Pale Township of Sagaing Region, junta soldiers in plain clothes under the disguise of PDFs arrested 22 people from Ywar Thit Village.
  • In Kawkarait Town of Karen State, the military junta has put pressure to the local people, who have run away due to local battles, to return home or else they would destroy or confiscate houses.
  • In Dawei Township and Yebyu Township of Tanintharyi Region, a combination of revolution forces attacked two junta camps on 19 and 22 May. Reportedly, 6 junta soldiers died.
  • In Monywa of Sagaing Region, Local Public’s Security Force caught a junta policeman under disguise of a fish-paste seller in the arrest of local strike leaders including Ko Wai Moe Naing.
  • In Kani Township, the revolution force supported rice and basic food items to 109 households of fire victims.
  • Human Rights Watch warned that the aid programmes of Japanese government to Myanmar still bring benefits for the military junta.
  • The Prime Minister of Thailand stated that they have been committed to ending the crisis in neighbouring Myanmar.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • In Rakhine State, the Arakan Army conducted the first officer training for 326 officers.
  • In Tunzan of Chin State, local CDF managed to rescue two political prisoners including a CDM teacher who had been sentenced to lifelong imprisonment by the junta’s martial court.
  • Matupi CDF successfully produced and tested Mr1 rockets which could be fired up to a distance of 10 miles.

The Military Council

  • Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association conducted the opening ceremony of their 33rd annual meeting. Present on the occasion was the wife of the junta leader.
  • According to Myanmar Witness on Thursday, it was found out via Google Earth that the military junta had another prison built in Bago Township.
  • For Myanmar people studying and working in Northern Thailand, their passports will be extended only at Myanmar Consulate-General Chiang Mai, not at the junta’s Embassy in Bangkok.
  • The junta Minister of Electricity said that they are working to give the whole country full access electricity by 2030.
  • The neighbouring countries have been allegedly copying and mass-producing Myanmar ethnic dresses. According to the junta Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, the authorities are trying to obtain copyright for Myanmar.
  • In a meeting on Thursday, the second junta leader Soe Win claimed that compared to the neighbouring countries, the ASEAN countries and Asian countries, the investment in Thilawa Special Economic Zone is still lower.
  • In Lashio of Northern Shan State, the junta soldiers and police have inspected the houses one by one in Ward (10) where most residents are Ta’ang people.

Summary on 25 May

  • The military junta has oppressed local people to their heart’s content. Consequently, the people have had to run to neighbouring countries. Only when other countries value the cultural heritage of ethnic people among Myanmar refugees and make it known to the international community, it is not possible for the military junta to claim that it belongs to them.
