The Myanmar junta reports that Union Minister for Ministry (3) of the State Administration Council (SAC) Chairman’s Office, Aung Naing Oo, and Maung Maung Win the junta’s Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance have retired.

The announcement of their retirements was made in a 27 May statement by the SAC. They have, however, been dismissed.

Aung Naing Oo has been a prominent figure within the SAC, having held posts in various ministries since the coup.

He previously served as the Director General of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) under both the Thein Sein quasi-civilian government and the NLD government. In 2019, he was appointed as the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations.

Following the military coup in February 2021, he was promoted and became a Union Minister, serving in several ministries including the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Ministry of Union Government Office (1). In January 2024, he was transferred to Ministry (2) of the SAC Chairman’s Office and later to Ministry (3).

Maung Maung Win previously served as the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Finance during the NLD administration.

The two men’s replacements have yet to be announced by the junta.

The men’s retirement marks a significant reshuffle within the SAC that reflects ongoing changes in the junta government.
