Spring Revolution Daily News for 17 June 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· In the United States, the Union Minister of Human Rights-NUG attended the anniversary of National Endowment for Democracy and the event of 2024 NED Democracy Awards on 14 June. Reportedly, he delivered a speech there.

· Under the Ministry of Defence-NUG, Naypyidaw People’s Defence Force (805) released photos of their military operation on Saturday.

· In Beelin Township of Mon State, the PDF (7805) conducted an attack on the junta’s inspection gate at the former toll booth on 14 June.

· In Tanintharyi Region, the NOGF-Spring Guerrilla Force based in Longlone Township completed their basic military training.

Revolution Activities

· In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally named ‘Daung Thway Ni with the Flag of Victory’ led a march against the military dictatorship on Sunday.

· In Yinmabin North, a local rally named ‘Let’s Never Get Back in This Revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship.

· In Monywa Township, there was a mine attack on the junta soldiers taking security measures for copper trucks on 13 June. Reportedly, there were casualties in the incident.

· In Myaing Township of Magway Region, the PDFs attacked 15 junta soldiers at close range on their way out from Kaingtawma Camp on Saturday morning. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and 2 guns were confiscated.

· In Myaing Township, the PDFs conducted an attack on the junta soldiers on their way back from taking away public’s belongings on Saturday evening.

· In Sintku Township of Mandalay Region, a retired captain, who had been recruiting for the junta army in Nwe Yone Village, was shot dead at 4:30 pm on 14 June.

· In Yebyu Township of Tanintharyi Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army stationed in Yar Phoo Village on 11 June. Reportedly, a junta army officer named Than Htay Aung died.

· In Taunggoke Township of Rakhine State, there has been fighting since Saturday night. Reportedly, local people have had to run away and some others have been trapped in town.

· In Dawei of Tanintharyi Region, there was an attack on a junta camp near Ashay Byin Ward on 12 June. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died.

· In Connecticut in the USA, a film festival is being held with the theme – ‘Beloved Flowers Blooming with Courage’. Reportedly, the funds earned from the event will be used to support the revolutionary forces.

· In South Korea, there was a prayer event prior to the 79th birthday of the public’s leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

· In South Korea, there was a rally for the release of political prisoners and against the military dictatorship in front of the junta’s consulate on Sunday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· In Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region, a combined force of Karen National Liberation Army attacked and seized the junta camp in Aung Thar Waya on 14 June. Reportedly, 17 junta soldiers died and many weapons were confiscated.

· In Rakhine State, there has been military tension between the Arakan Army and the junta army near Taunggoke. Reportedly, the military junta has conducted aerial bombings on nearby villages.

· In Nyaung Shwe Township of Southern Shan State, the 3 members of the junta’s Pa-O National Organization, who had been demanding money at the crossroads in Namhu Village, were shot dead on Saturday.

· In Kachin Sub-State of Northern Shan State, Kachin Independence Organization/ Kachin Independence Army opened the immigration office in Namphetkar on Saturday.

· Brigade (11), a new one established by the KIA, was opened on Friday.

· In Chin State, a troop led by some junta army officers ran away when the CDFs were on their way to attack Tunzan.

The Military Council

· The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they had been preparing for an election to be held in 2025.

· According to the junta’s Central Bank, those leaving for abroad can exchange foreign currency for mini-expenses at licensed companies such as Money Services Co., Ltd and Eastern Lad Co. Ltd in Kamayut, Pabedan and North Okkalapa.

· The junta propaganda team announced that Loikaw had been in peace and stability again.

· The junta’s Anti-Corruption Commission stated that they had been doing a programme to get the public’s response.

· The junta Minister of Education said that distance learners with science majors must attend classes like doing practical work.

Summary on 17 June

· The junta leader has always said that they would hold an election at the national level. However, in reality, the military junta has gradually lost the areas under their influence. Additionally, there have been anti-junta movements in such areas. In other words, their election would be just a superficial one.
