Spring Revolution Daily News for 22 April 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· On Sunday, the NUG announced that the military junta has recruited Rohingya people by force for the military service, put pressure on them to trigger racial conflicts and made them conduct fake protests in Buthitaung Township of Rakhine State. They also called on the ethnic groups to overcome such challenges with trust, mutual respect and understanding.

· In Kawkarait Township of Karen State, a junta sergeant named Thet Naing Oo, along with weapons, defected to Special Operation Force on 15 April before an attack on the junta’s Methayawta Camp near Kyaik Done Town. Reportedly, he was rewarded 80,000 Baht equivalent to 80 lakh MMK.

· On Saturday, Naypyitaw Regional People’s Defence Force (PDF) conducted an event on completion of their basic military training.

· In Kyaikto of Mon State, a junta-appointed one-hundred-household leader Aung Kyaw, who had been recruiting for the junta army under the Military Service Law, was shot dead on the morning of 18 April while selling naans.

Revolution Activities

· In Myawaddy Township of Karen State, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing via jet on the town at close range at about 7:00 am Sunday. Reportedly, all the townspeople have had to run away.

· After local battles in Myawaddy, about 1,500 people ran away from the fighting to Mae Sot of Thailand on Saturday.

· In Myawaddy Township, a car carrying displaced people was shot at on Saturday morning while there was heavy fighting near No. (2) Friendship Bridge. Reportedly, two girls lost their lives and their parents were injured.

· On 23 April, the Prime Minister of Thailand will reportedly come to Mae Sot to observe the ongoing situation on Thai-Myanmar border due to the battles in Myawaddy Township.

· According to Thai media and military sources, they have been watching 24/7 so that the junta’s aircraft, which have been bombing on the people in Myawaddy Township, do not enter the air territory of Thailand.

· Reportedly, 69 Thai experts called on the government of Thailand to provide political refuge to Myanmar people in Thailand, who are at risk of the junta’s oppression and recruitment by force, upon expiration of their education or employment visa.

· In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a local rally named Shwe Ye Kyi marched against the military dictatorship on Sunday.

· In Pale Township, a social group donated five school buildings for the displaced children.

· In Salingyi Township, a rally of New Strength marched for Comrade Min Min Htet who lost his life ten months ago. They also protested against the military dictatorship.

· In Salingyi Township, a bombshell dropped and exploded in Pulaung Village at 8:30 am Saturday. Reportedly, a local man lost his life.

· In Shwebo Township, an alliance of local PDFs conducted a bomb attack via drone on 70 junta soldiers stationed in Taganan Village on 15 April. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta members.

· In Tilin Township of Magway Region, there were attacks via mortars and drone on five junta sites including the court, the police station and the administration office at 4:30 pm on 17 April. Reportedly, six junta soldiers and Pyusawti members got injured.

· In Yetashay Township of Bago Region, two hundred-household leaders were shot dead near the local police station on 19 April. Reportedly, they had been arresting the youth for the junta’s recruitment.

· In Yetashay Township, there were two battles near Swar Ywarmagyi Village at 9:45 am on 17 April. Reportedly, about 50 junta soldiers died whereas four members of the revolution forces lost their lives.

· In Longlone Township of Tanintharyi Region, there were simultaneous attacks on local junta stations on the afternoon of 19 April. Reportedly, four junta members died.

· On Saturday, Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar conducted a photo campaign, calling for an immediate stop to the massacre in Myitkyina Prison of Kachin State.

· Young Mizoram Association announced the points for the displaced people to follow; including the one that the refugees are not to get involved in drug dealing.

· A total of 312 Myanmar, Thai and international organizations sent an open letter to the Thai government, stating that the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the President U Win Myint still have been in their position. They also called for respecting the desire of Myanmar people.

· In Daegu of South Korea, there was a football match to raise the fund for the revolution.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· In Kyaik Mayaw Township of Mon State, there were battles between the junta armed forces and New Mon State Party (Against Dictatorship) in Kawthat Village and Than Kalaung Village at about 7:00 am on 19 April. Reportedly, both sides had casualties.

· Somewhere in Namsam Township of Northern Shan State, Ta’ang National Liberation Army opened Batch (2) of their political science academy.

· In Sisai Township of Southern Shan State, a junta soldier named Nyi Nyi Naing from Ka-Ma-Ya (423) threatened a displaced woman with gunfire and tried to rape her on 14 April.

· In Kawkarait of Karen State, there was heavy fighting against the junta’s Aung Zay Ya Troop on Sunday morning. According to Karen National Liberation Army, both sides had casualties.

· On 19 April, PDF Zoland released the photos that they had gained over 100 weapons including mortars due to the support of the public.

· In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, the battle continued between Kachin Independence Army and the junta army in Sezin Area on Sunday.

The Military Council

· During the inspection tour on Saturday, the junta Minister of Industry instructed the garment factories in Pyawbwe and Yamethin to sell all the products manufactured to gain more income.

· According to the junta Ministry of Electricity, they will implement 14mw solar energy system step by step in Thilawa Special Economic Zone.

· According to the junta Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, they will implement 3 million acres of oil crops as oil crop special zone starting from 2024-2025 fiscal year.

· According to the junta’s Yangon Train Station, they resumed the city trains, which had been suspended in Thingyan.

· Dr. Hkalam Samson, former Chairman of KBC, was taken away from home again after amnesty grant on 17 April. Regarding it, the junta propaganda leader claimed that it was not for rearrest, but for discussing peace with him.

· In Pyin Oo Lwin of Mandalay Region, there has been military tension. On Sunday morning, the junta army in Nyaunggone Village wildly shot mortars 15 times.

· On Saturday, the junta army conducted an air strike on Myawaddy of Karen State. Reportedly, two local people lost lives and two others got injured.

· In Rakhine State, the military junta forced Rohingya people to protest against the Arakan Army. The junta army also threatened them that they would set fire to the houses of those who fail to do so.

Summary on 22 April

· With a great loss in Rakhine State, the military junta has been stimulating religious and racial conflicts among local residents.

· In Myawaddy on Thai-Myanmar border, the fighting has gained momentum. As the junta army has carried out aerial bombings even on the civilian places, local people have had to run to the other side of the border.
