Spring Revolution Daily News for 3 May 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC) announced that Karenni State is still in great danger from landmines and other unexploded weapons over the period of local battles. They also issued the warnings for the public to follow.

· At 1:00 pm Wednesday, there was a meeting (18/2024) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administration from Mandalay Region and Magway Region.

· According to the NUG, about 15,000 people from all over the country, who do not want to serve for the junta army, have contacted them.

Revolution Activities

· Yaw Defence Force stated that they would never forget the proud memory of the Spring Revolution regarding the battle to seize Kyin Dway in Kanpetlet Township of Chin State for over 100 days, along with the alliance forces.

· Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar called for adequate healthcare services in prisons throughout the country.

· According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, 106 civilians under the age of 18 lost their lives due to the junta army in the first four months of 2024.

· Citing Le Monde, Justice for Myanmar stated that a university in France has been investigating Ma Theint Htet, who faces calls for no extension of her visa and no acceptance at the university.

· In Sintku Township of Mandalay Region, there was a mine attack on junta soldiers opening inspection gates and demanding money from the public.

· In Dibeyin Township of Sagaing Region, the public marched in support of the NUG and the PDFs. They also protested against the military dictatorship.

· Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesperson of the United Nations Secretary General, stated that the false information, fake news and hate speech have been spreading in Northern Rakhine State and there have been the signs of increasing risks and tension for racial and religious affairs. He added that the United Nations has been concerned about it.

· According to UNOCHA Myanmar, about 166,000 people have been displaced in Rakhine State due to local battles between the junta army and Arakan Army.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· In Hpa Kant Township of Kachin State, there were exchanges of fire between the junta army and a combined force of the Kachin Independence Army in Seik Mu Village starting from 6:00 pm Wednesday. Reportedly, 2 local people were hit with the mortars fired by the junta army and were injured.

· The spokesman of Chin National Front stated that they have been trying for no military conflicts among Chin armed forces.

· Ta’ang National Liberation Army announced that they had punished their members, who had drunk a junta army product, Myanmar Beer, with caning, hard labour and other social penalties.

The Military Council

· At the time of extremely high temperature due to El Nino, there have been frequent power outages throughout the country including Naypyitaw, the headquarters of the military junta.

· The junta Immigration do not allow those without the UID to go to Thailand via No. (1) Friendship Bridge.

· The junta Ministry of Electricity announced that they would now be able to produce only 50% of the power demand in the country.

· In Mindat Township of Chin State, the junta army conducted airstrikes on Area (2) on Wednesday evening and night.

· According to a permanent secretary of the junta Labour Ministry, they have put a ban against men working abroad starting from 1 May.

· Starting from Wednesday, the military junta has adopted the system of issuing a border pass to those only with Unique Identification Number to pass Myawaddy-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge.

· Only those with the UID issued by the military junta are allowed to pass the border from Kawthaung to Ranong.

Summary on 3 May

· With a great loss in military and human resources, the military junta has banned men from working abroad. They have also tightened the rules to pass the border gates only with the UID. They have been preparing to recruit for another batch of their military training. They have trapped the youth with no escape.
