Spring Revolution Daily News for 6 May 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· On the 3rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) on Sunday, Minister of Defence U Yi Mon stated that the NUG has liberated areas.

· In Charlot of North Carolina, Union Minister of Communication and Technology- NUG, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations met with the Myanmar community on Saturday.

· On the way to Myawaddy in Karen State, 3 junta soldiers from Regiment (55) and Aung Zay Ya Column, along with weapons, defected to White Tiger Battalion of Southern Military Region.

· Bamar People’s Liberation Army and the PDFs have been involved in Joint Operation Command (JOC) led by Karen National Liberation Army in the southern military region and similar activities in other military regions.

· In the south of Kalay Township in Sagaing Region, a shell fired by the junta army fell and exploded on a house, killing a woman and leaving 3 others injured including a child. Reportedly, the focal person of Local Team of Humanitarian Assistance-NUG donated 50,000 MMK to each of the injured victims.

Revolution Activities

· In Incheon of South Korea, there was a football match to raise funds for the revolution, along with a protest against the Public’s Military Service Law of Myanmar’s military junta.

· In Buthitaung and Maungtaw Township of Rakhine State, 40 armed members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Force ran into Bangladesh due to the attacks by the Arakan Army (AA).

· In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally named ‘Let’s Never Get Back in This Revolution’ protested against the military dictatorship on Sunday.

· In the north of Kalay Township, the junta army shot dead 2 mentally-ill men in Pyidawthar Village. In addition, a local woman lost her life as she stepped on a mine.

· Myanmar citizens need the UID cards when crossing the border to other countries. In Myawaddy of Karen State, it costs 50,000 MMK to 100,000 MMK per card on the black market.

· In Kamamaung of Karen State, Brigadier General San Nyunt Hlaing, the commander of the junta’s No. (8) Military Operation Headquarters, died in a mine attack by a combined force of Karen National Liberation Army in the nighttime.

· In Ngazun Township of Mandalay Region, there was a battle in Myay Tie Village. Reportedly, there was also a mine attack on the junta’s support troops.

· In Gyobinkauk Township of Bago Region, there was an attack via 79mm grenades on a local police station.

· In Rakhine, Mandalay, Sagaing and Magway, nearly 4,000 public’s houses were burnt to ashes by the junta army in April, according to Data for Myanmar.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· In Sunprabun of Kachin State, Kachin Independence Army attacked and took complete control of the junta’s strategic camp on Sunday morning.

· In Rakhine State, the AA has seized 5 junta army units including No. (15) Supervisory Headquarters in Buthitaung Township and 4 others in Maungtaw Township.

The Military Council

· From the military coup to 4 May 2024, the military junta has cut off electricity to 400,000 meters which fail to pay the bill throughout the country. They have also removed and confiscated over 60,000 meters of such kind.

· According to the junta Central Bank, they have conducted surprise checks on the money changers to stabilize the foreign currency market and the exchange rate. They took action against another two money changers who had failed to follow the rules and regulations on 3 May.

· On 2 May, there was a discussion for Russia to invest in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone in Yangon.

· The second day of the 59th Gems Emporium was held at Mani Yadanar Jade Hall in Naypyidaw. Present on the occasion was the junta’s Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation.

Summary on 6 May

· In Kachin State and Rakhine State, the military junta has had to let go of their army camps and towns. Under the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, Myanmar’s Army is in disarray, in some cases with soldiers fleeing to escape over borders into other countries.
