The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In Magway Region, a junta soldier from (368) Heavy Weapons Unit, along with weapons, defected to Gantgaw District People’s Defence Force (PDF). Reportedly, he was rewarded 50 lakh MMK.
  • On 2 May, Ministry of Education-NUG announced the list of the interim schools recognized by the NUG for extension.
  • In Mingaladone Township of Yangon Region, there was a mine attack on the security gate of the junta’s Military Security Force in front of Aung Mingalar Done Bus Terminal. Reportedly, there were damages in the incident.
  • In Karen State, 26 junta soldiers died in a battle to seize the junta’s Taungsun Frontline Camp based in KyarIn Seikgyi. According to Special Operation Force, they chased after 13 others including the commander who had run away.

Revolution Activities

  • In Yay Township of Mon State, there was an attack on a junta camp on Kalargoat Island. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers including an officer were caught alive and some weapons were confiscated.
  • In Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region, 2 junta sergeant clerks from Ka-La-Ya (557) based in Aukkin Village, along with weapons, defected to the Southern Brothers’ Army.
  • In Mizoram State of India, a school where 59 Myanmar displaced children had been learning was damaged due to a storm.
  • In Yesagyo of Magway Region, there was a mine attack on the junta army. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died and 3 others were seriously injured.
  • In Karen State, Border Guard Force warned the foreigners doing online gambling in Shwe Kokko and Myawaddy Township to leave the areas within 6 months.
  • According to the UNOCHR-Myanmar, more than 3 million people have had to run away from home all over the country due to local battles.
  • In Kyaikto Township of Mon State, there was an attack on the junta inspection gate at Moat Palin Crossroads. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died and no less than 7 others were injured.
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, a large number of junta soldiers have stationed in Seikmu Village. Consequently, there might be fighting anytime. Therefore, the PDFs warned the public to take caution.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • In Mindat Township of Chin State, the junta army conducted an airstrike on Wammathu Hospital. For the re-operation of the medical team, a collection was made for 6 days. According to Mindat Township People’s Administration, they earned income worth over 500 lakh MMK.
  • The Vice Chair of Shan State Progressive Party/ Shan State Army said that there is no way at all to seek solution at the round table for true union democracy and thus, they had decided to fight the military junta.
  • In the south of Mindat Township in Chin State, 5 local people lost their lives and 31 others were injured due to the junta’s airstrikes in April, according to CDF Mindat.

The Military Council

  • There was a meeting between the junta’s Chief of Air Force and Air Chief Marshal Punpakdee Pattanakul to promote friendship and cooperation between the air forces of Thailand and Myanmar.
  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and his team were present at the gems emporium at Mani Yadanar Jade Hall.
  • The junta Chief Minister of Karen State provided rice to the displaced people.
  • In Monywa of Sagaing Region, the winning volleyball players under the age of 25 were awarded on Friday morning. Present on the occasion was the junta’s regional government representatives.

Summary on 5 May

  • The SSPP/ SSA based in Shan State declared war on the military junta. Consequently, there might be battles in the southern and eastern parts of Shan State.
  • In Tanintharyi Region in the south of the country, there has been fighting on a daily basis. The defensive war has been in great momentum and the revolution forces have been able to seize junta camps.
