Spring Revolution Daily News for 21 May 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· In Kyungsu Township of Tanintharyi Region, the Local Public’s Administration arrested WY drug dealers and users upon receiving the report in Yamone Village.

· Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management-NUG announced that they had provided support worth 505.6 million MMK to those in need in April.

Revolution Activities

· Justice for Myanmar called on India to immediately stop their sales of weapons, military items, technology and fuel oil to the military junta as well as their military training.

· In Mintone Township of Magway Region, there were two attacks on junta troops on their way to support the force stationed in Ngagone Village. Reportedly, no less than 20 junta soldiers died.

· According to an EC member of Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar, some political prisoners in Loikaw Prison of Karenni State have been suffering from a stroke-like illness and physical weakness due to insufficient food.

· In Thayetchaung Township of Tanintharyi Region, Dawei Democratic Movement Strike Committee provided basic food items to the displaced people.

· In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally named ‘Let’s Never Get Back in This Revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· The spokesperson of New Mon State Party (Against Dictatorship) stated that they would allow the continuation of education and health services provided by non-CDM staff in the areas under their control.

· Via the negotiation of Chinese Government, the junta’s delegation met with the representatives from the Arakan Army (AA), the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Kunming of Yunnan Province in China on 14 and 15 May. Reportedly, they had an exclusive meeting with the AA on the morning of 16 May.

· The Arakan Army (AA) announced on Monday that nearly 200 Rohingya people had to run away due to the junta’s airstrikes in Buthidaung Township. Reportedly, the AA provided medical support and sent them to a safe place.

· According to Karen National Union Brigade (5), the junta soldiers from Kyauk Nyet (Wa Lu) Camp in Hpapun District of Karen State have left their station in early May due to the attacks almost on a daily basis.

· In Chin State, some members of the revolution forces lost their lives in a battle to seize the town of Tunzan.

· In Winemaw Township of Kachin State, a combined force led by Kachin Independence Army has been attacking the junta army camps. Reportedly, they have seized some camps.

· In Thatone Township and Kyaikto Township of Mon State, the junta army shot mortars into villages. Consequently, a person lost their life, 6 people including 2 children were injured and some houses were damaged, according to Karen National Union (Central).

The Military Council

· The ASEAN stated that the Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair to Myanmar and the Secretary General of the ASEAN had gone to Myanmar and they had called on the junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing to implement the ASEAN 5-Point Consensus.

· The junta Central Bank of Myanmar announced that they had sold 10 million Chinese Yuan into the foreign currency market via the Online Trading Platform on 20 May.

· According to the junta Ministry of Economics and Commerce, they watch the daily FOB prices of edible oil in Malaysia, the main importer. They then calculate and issue the reference rate for whole sale in local market by adding transportation costs, banking fees and taxes.

· In Naypyidaw, a workshop is being conducted for the production of edible oil from locally-produced oil crops and cooperation from respective sectors for the self-sufficiency of edible oil.

Summary on 21 May

· With a great loss in Rakhine State, the military junta has been creating racial conflicts. They have also been trying to stop the attacks of the Arakan Army via the negotiation held in China.
