Spring Revolution Daily News for 16 June 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On Friday, the Acting President of the NUG called on all the ethnic, political and education groups and organizations for the establishment of Interim Federal Education Council.
  • In the 17th Conference on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun stated that the number of disabled people has risen in Myanmar due to the brutal treatment and inhumane attacks of the junta army.
  • In Pauk Kaung Township of Bago Region, Pwar Thi, a new administrator of Gyobin Village Tract, was shot dead at about 6:00 pm Thursday.
  • According to Pakkoku District People’s Defence Force (3), they conducted gun-shooting exercise and competition targeting the pictures of the junta leaders Min Aung Hlaing, Soe Win and Zaw Min Tun.
  • In No. (1) Military Region, Thayet District PDF completed their basic military training Batch (6) in a liberated area on Wednesday.
  • Ministry of Health-NUG reported that they had provided healthcare to the public including over 100,000 students via over 700 hospitals, clinics and mobile clinics.

Revolution Activities

  • In Yinmabin North of Sagaing Region, a rally named ‘Let’s Never Get Back in This Revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Kyunghla Township, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing via two fighter jets on Ywar Kone Gyi Village on Saturday afternoon.
  • In Shwebo Township, the Local Strike Committee conducted a movement in commemoration of the 79th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, holding signs – ‘Iron Roses!’.
  • In Ye-U, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta stations in town at about 10:00 am Saturday. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.
  • In Myinmu, there was a grenade attack on the junta soldiers taking security measures at Myanma Economics Bank on Friday morning. Reportedly, 2 junta soldiers died.
  • In Butalin Township, the junta army carried out an aerial bombing in the north of Nyaunggone Village on Thursday night. Reportedly, a couple lost their lives.
  • In Monywa Township, the PDF attacked the junta’s camp in Tidawtin Village. Reportedly, they were warmly welcomed by local people on the way back.
  • In Salingyi Township, a social group donated rice and curry to the displaced people.
  • In Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army on their way to send rations and weapons to Ka-Ma-Ya (15) on the morning of 10 June. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died.
  • In Sintku Township, a former army captain was shot dead in Shautpinyoe Village at about 2:00 pm Friday. Afterwards, the junta army arrested 15 people.
  • In cooperation with local PDFs, the AFCC-Mdy provided support to the public in need.
  • In Natmauk Township of Magway Region, there was a mine attack on the junta army between Kyungboat Village and Kyauksi Village on Friday. Reportedly, 17 junta soldiers died.
  • In Natmauk Township and Myothit Township, the junta army killed 2 local people and set fire to villages on Friday evening. Reportedly, they faced a guerrilla attack.
  • In Yebyu Township of Tanintharyi Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army in Yar Phoo Village on 11 June. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers including an officer were seriously injured.
  • In Longlone Township, Dawei Democratic Movement Strike Committee led a march on Saturday.
  • In Oatpho Township of Bago Region, there was a battle between the junta army and the PDF on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died whereas a PDF member lost his life.
  • In Pauktaw Township and Ponnagyun Township of Rakhine State, local residents of some villages have had to run away due to the mortars fired by the junta army.
  • In Kyaikmayaw Prison of Mon State, an inmate got an electric shock and fainted while working. As the prison failed to do anything about him, the other prisoners asked for the prison staff to hospitalize him. Afterwards, over 100 political prisoners were transferred elsewhere on Saturday morning.
  • On Friday, Myanmar Women, Peace and Security (MWPS) called for the establishment of complaint mechanism for violence against women in the revolution forces.
  • In Daegu of South Korea, there was a protest against Myanmar’s military dictatorship on Saturday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • On 10 June, Pa-O National Liberation Army briefly celebrated the 17th anniversary of their establishment.
  • The PNLA announced that they had never been a traitor such as defecting to the enemy or giving up arms. They added that they would join hands with brotherhood forces to continue the fight against all forms of dictatorship including the military one.
  • Despite the order of the Chair of the junta’s Special Area (1) in Kachin State to the militias and Border Guard Forces to sacrifice their lives, the Kachin Independence Army has seized their camps one after another.
  • In Maungtaw Township of Rakhine State, Arakan Army attacked and took control of 4 junta camps. Reportedly, over 200 junta soldiers including the strategist died.
  • In Tunzan of Chin State, Chin National Front confiscated white heroin worth 17,600 lakh MMK (over 400 lakh Indian Rupees) from two local people.
  • In Matupi Township, Chin Brotherhood Forces continued to attack the junta army on Saturday.
  • In Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region, a combined force of Karen National Liberation Army and the PDF attacked and seized the junta camp in Aung Thar Waya Village on Saturday.

The Military Council

  • On 12 June, the junta’s Central Bank announced that the amount for online payment and transfer had been changed.
  • The junta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that with Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Special Fund 2024, 6 Ministries in Myanmar would implement 12 projects.
  • Myanma Petrochemical Enterprise would sell 900,000 gallons of petrol via tender system.
  • In Thayetchaung Township of Tanintharyi Region, an area of 601.6 acres had been regarded as Thayet Taunggyi Sanctuary starting from 7 June.
  • According to the junta’s Ministry of Tourism, they would implement ‘One Tourist, One Tree’ programme in 6 tourist destinations from July to November.
  • The junta’s Embassy announced that Myanmar people in Egypt must apply for residence by 30 June at the latest or there will be legal action.

Summary on 16 June

  • In Rakhine State, the AA has been carrying out heavy offensives. They have seized the junta camps one after another. In Northern Shan State, there might be local battles again between the junta army and the Northern Alliance due to the junta’s expansion and their breach of the ceasefire.
