Spring Revolution Daily News for 3 January 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· The Committee Representing the Pyitaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) released a statement of sorrow for the earthquake victims in Japan and best wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.

· In a statement by the Northern Alliance on the 67th day of Operation 1027, it was mentioned that the Arakan Army (AA) has continued to fight in Paletwa.

· At 10:00 am Monday, there was a meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG and Township People’s Administration Teams from Sagaing Region, Magwe Region and Mandalay Region.

· At 3:00 pm Monday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administration from Sagaing Region.

· On Monday, the NUG announced that it would join hands with countries in the region including China to combat across-the-border crimes such as Kyar Phyant online fraud, gambling, human trafficking and drug dealing.

· The Ministry of Foreign Affairs- NUG stated that it would try its best for mutual friendship, trust and cooperation with a focus on people-to-people relations between China and Myanmar.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Monywa Township of Sagaing Region, there was a mine attack on a junta convoy on the Monywa-ChaungU Road. Reportedly, there might have been casualties among the junta soldiers.

· In Yinmabin Township, a combined rally of local people and students conducted a New Year protest against the military dictatorship on Tuesday morning.

· In Yinmabin Township, the Brother Defence Force conducted attacks with mortars on the junta’s No. (28) Police Force on the side of the Monywa-Pathein Road and the junta army camp on Shwe Taung Oo Hill.

· On Monday evening, Ko Kaung Min Thant died of kidney disease. He had been the only person who had escaped from the junta army by hiding in the attic in the case of the young people jumping off from an apartment during a junta’s raid on 44 Street in Botataung Township of Yangon Region.

· In Natoegyi of Mandalay Region, local PDFs attacked the junta armed forces in town. Reportedly, there were casualties.

· In Minhla Township of Bago Region, a junta administrator from Gantgawbin Village Tract was shot dead.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· In a New Year’s Speech on Monday, the Chair of the Kachin Independence Organisation stated that it was now the darkest time before the dawn.

· The Commander in Chief of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) stated that they would put Shan State Special Area (1) along with the other areas they seized under their own Constitution.

· According to the MNDAA, the military junta has protected the four families carrying out telecoms fraud in the Kokang Area: who have kidnapped and trafficked a large number of Chinese people, even torturing some to death. They added that they would proceed with Operation 1027.

· On Tuesday, the AA declared that it had been fighting 4 junta army camps in Paletwa Township and Kyauktaw Township.

· The Chair of the National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA) stated that they would cooperate with China to combat crimes like online fraud.

The Military Council

· Myanmar Embassy in Tokyo announced that Myanmar workers in Japan could contact them if they need any assistance due to natural disasters.

· In 2024, the junta Central Bank sold nearly 13 million USD on the foreign currency market for the first time.

· The Chair of the Anti-Corruption Commission claimed that it had been making an effort to nurture a culture in the country which refuses corrupt practices.

· U Than Tun Oo, the Chair of the Naypyi Taw Council, said that a local special team had been trying hard to stop illegal trade there.

· At 9:30 am Tuesday, the Copyright Conference was held at the hall of the junta’s Ministry of Economics and Commerce in Naypyi Taw. Reportedly, Brigadier General Mya Tun Oo, the junta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister of Transportation and Communication was present at the event and delivered a speech.

Summary on 3 January

· The revolution still has great momentum. In addition, the EAOs and the revolutionary forces are determined to uproot the military dictatorship in 2024.

· The NUG has been trying for a closer relationship with China. It said that it would join hands with China to fight cross border crimes, like Kyar Phyant online fraud gangs.
