Spring Revolution Daily News for 4 January 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· In Myaung Township of Sagaing Region, Local People’s Security Force conducted a coordination meeting on Tuesday.

· In an interview with RFA, the Union Minister of Foreign Affairs- NUG stated that all the Chinese projects and agreements in Myanmar would remain the same as they were before the coup and they would not take on responsibility for the ones signed with the military junta after the coup.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region, a troop of more than 100 junta soldiers has been invading the western area since 5:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, over 8,000 people have had to run away.

· In Monywa Township, there was an attack on a car of the junta army near Sarkyin Cemetery. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers including a captain died.

· In Kyauktaw Township of Rakhine State, the junta army fired mortars into Myauk Taung Village without any battle. Reportedly, a child aged 3 lost their life.

· In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region, Guardians UG conducted a grenade attack on Myoma Police Station on Tuesday night.

· On Monday, young revolutionists called on the leaders of the revolution to ensure the involvement of the youth in drawing up the plans for a future federal union.

· In Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, there were bomb attacks via drone on 4 junta camps including Kokko Police Station.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· In Paletwa Township of Chin State, the Arakan Army (AA) took control of the junta’s Kamaungwa Camp. The Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance declared on Wednesday that they would attack and gain control of the remaining camps within a week.

· In Phapun District under the Karen National Union Brigade (5) in Kayin State, 12 junta soldiers died and 57 others including sergeants were injured in December 2023.

· In Taungoo District under the KNU Brigade (2), the junta armed forces left two of their camps.

· Near Lai Za under the control of the Kachin Independence Army in Kachin State, they managed to shoot down a junta helicopter at 11:50 am Wednesday.

· In Mindat of Chin State, there was a battle in Ashay Pyin Ward. According to a local CDF, a junta colonel was shot by a sniper.

· In Kutkhine Township of Northern Shan State, there was fighting between the junta army and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army.

The Military Council

· In Paletwa Township of Chin State, the AA took control of the junta’s .377 Camp on the Myanmar-India border. In the battle, the junta soldiers ran to Mizoram State of India. Reportedly, the Indian government sent back those 151 soldiers to Myanmar.

· In Kawkarait of Kayin State, the junta army conducted a bomb attack via drone In Ward (7) at about 8:00 am Wednesday. Reportedly, 3 civilians got hit and injured.

· In Monywa of Sagaing Region, the military junta unlawfully arrested 6 people including 3 sisters.

· According to the junta Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the production of rice is balanced for the summer and the rainy season in Myanmar this year, amounting to 13 million

tons. As the local consumption is 9.5 million tons, the excess is estimated to be over 3 million tons.

· According to the junta Ministry of Economics and Commerce, the export of agricultural products in 8.5 months of the current fiscal year decreased by nearly 400 million USD when compared with that of the previous year.

· The junta’s Union Election Commission declared that they had completed the sample voting with electronic voting machines in 44 townships of Yangon Region.

Summary on 4 January

· In the battle against the AA, 151 junta soldiers ran to India. This was not the first time for them to do so. The same happened in December and India had to send them back.

· In a speech for New Year, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing kept mentioning that the election would be held. The junta’s UEC also claimed that they had finished the sample voting system. Whether the election takes place or not, the military junta has planned to get hold of power under another excuse.
