A couple traveling from Kalewa Township, Kalay District, Sagaing Region, was shot at by Pyu Saw Htee stationed in Ma-U Village, Mingin Township. The incident occurred at around 9 am on 2 December at the exit of Myayni Village, Mingin Township, in the Sagaing region.

The couple, who were riding an electric-trishaw along the Myonywa-Kalewa-Yargyi road, were targeted and shot by Pyu Saw Htee. The husband lost his life in the attack, while the wife escaped, as reported by an official from a resistance group Kalay District No. (15) Battalion.

On the same day as the incident, at noon, when the People’s Defense Force (PDF) arrived at the scene, Pyu Saw Htee from Ma-U Village had already retreated. The PDF took charge of retrieving the deceased man’s body and subsequently handed it over to his niece in Kalewa Township.

“Upon our arrival at the incident area, Pyu Saw Htee had already retreated. Upon reaching the scene, we discovered that the man had succumbed to his injuries, having been shot twice in the chest and the arm. The motives behind the shooting by Pyu Saw Htee remain unclear,” said the PDF official.

Residents reported that Pyu Saw Htee had a history of physical violence, extortion, and forcibly seizing the belongings of civilians traveling on the Myonywa-Kalewa-Yargyi road.

Ma-U Village is situated in the northwest of Mingin Township.

Since the arrival of the junta force and Pyu Saw Htee militia in September 2022, consisting of approximately 30 soldiers, the force has coerced local villagers into joining Pyu Saw Htee and maintained a presence in Ma-U Village. This situation has persisted until the present time.
