Junta airstrikes and artillery kills six, including children, in Kyauktaw Township

Junta artillery and airstrikes killed six people, including two children, and injured six people in Lintsinywathit Village, in Rakhine State’s Kyauktaw Township on the afternoon of 17 January.

Residents said there had been no fighting in the area when the junta had fired artillery and launched three airstrikes which caused the casualties and also burnt down houses.

“The Junta soldiers stationed at Military Operation Command No. 9 in Kyauktaw Town frequently fire artillery at the village areas. We were compelled to flee as three artillery shells landed inside the village, resulting in casualties and injuries among the residents”, said a villager from Lintsinywathit.

The dead were two 10-year-old children, three women and a man, their funerals ere held on 8 January.s The six injured villagers were taken to Kyauktaw Township Hospital. None of them is in a critical condition, according to reports.
