The EU Delegation to ASEAN has recently concluded the Youth Sustainable Project (YSUP)

Competition 2024, reports Kaneisha Alifputri, Public Relations for Communication and Visibility for EU Cooperation ASEAN.

The ten best projects were chosen, including an initiative by a Myanmar youth, one for each ASEAN state.

The annual flagship competition brought together ASEAN youth from all 10 ASEAN

Member States with projects ranging from medical technology to waste management and mental

health.

Out of 152 submissions, ten best projects were selected based on their relevance to the topics of

Global Gateway Priorities and the European Green Deal, as well as their potential to scale.

The ten winning projects cover the issues of climate and energy, circular economy, health, digital,

agricultural, biodiversity, education and research and received a series of mentorship on EU-ASEAN

Green Business Landscape and Project Communications to further strengthen their respective

projects.

First launched in 2021, the Youth Sustainable Project Competition aims to provide a platform to bring

ASEAN youth to the forefront of the global stage as the future of ASEAN. The competition is initiated

by the Delegation of the European Union to ASEAN in collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat around

different themes and strategic priorities.

One of the ten winners is Kyaw Zayar Win from Myanmar. He founded a digital app called,

‘MyFarmer’, to connect farmers with accessible financial resources. More than 100 million people in

the ASEAN region are relying on agriculture for their livelihoods yet the farmers do not have affordable

and accessible financial services (i.e., banks or financial institutions) to embark on their farmer

productions.

“The application has successfully gathered more than 200 farmers and found 20 investors

and donors in a short period of time,” said Kyaw Zayar Win.

Highlights of all ten winning projects can be found in the following YouTube video:

Kaneisha Alifputri says the organizers believe that by disseminating this event it can boost and support the ASEAN’ youth community in developing their creativity and raising awareness upon critical issues that occurred at the moment. By disseminating this event, it will pose a great impact for the youth and community to support sustainable development targets.
