Junta drops two 500 pound bombs on Kani Township in Sagaing Region

A junta aircraft dropped two 500 pound bombs on Kani Township in Sagaing Region on 5 March that killed a person and severely injured two others.

The first bomb was dropped on Ward 3 in Kani Town at about 11:00 am.

The second bomb was dropped on Minkone Village in Kani Township at 4:00 pm. It killed a man and severely injured two other people. The explosion also caused eight houses to burn down.

“A junta aircraft flew over three times and released two 500-pound bombs, one targeting Ward (3) and the other aimed at Minkone Village. The powerful explosions from the bombs tore apart the walls of homes, sparking rapid fires”, said a source in Kani Township.

There has been fierce fighting between the junta and defence forces in Kani Township since 2 March and the junta has been launching airstrikes with Mi-35 attack helicopters and jet fighters. As of 6 March they had launched about 40 airstrikes in Kani Township.

On 6 March at 10:00 pm, defence forces seized Kani Town, but fighting was still ongoing in the rest of the township.

Fighting has forced nearly 10,000 people to flee from Kani Township.
