Spring Revolution Daily News for 14 March 2024 

The National Unity Government (NUG) 

  • On Wednesday, the Union Prime Minister of the NUG sent a statement on the 36th anniversary of the loss of Yangon Institute of Technology students; Ko Phone Maw and Ko Soe Naing. He also vowed that they would continue their effort in the Public’s Spring Revolution for the complete downfall of the military dictatorship. 
  • On 5, 6 and 7 March, the People’s Defence Forces (PDFs) attacked the junta armed forces stationed in the town of Dagaung and Latpangone Village in Mandalay Region. According to the PDF Headquarters, 14 junta soldiers died and four others were caught alive. 
  • At 9:00 am Tuesday, Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG conducted a workshop on administration for District People’s Administration and Township People’s Administration from Sagaing Region and Magway Region. 
  • At 1:00 pm Tuesday, there was a meeting (5/2024) between Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration-NUG and Township People’s Administration from Yangon Region. 

Revolution Activities 

  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally named ‘Let’s Never Get Back in This Revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday, raising a banner – ‘Against the unjust Military Service Law’. 
  • In Kani Township, a social group supported food items for 100 households in Ngar Phyat-Pan Hsaing Village. 
  • In the south of Kalay Township, the junta army arrested and killed a local resident in Tomar Village. In addition, 14 public’s houses were burnt to ashes due to the junta’s air strikes and heavy weapons. 
  • In Pale Township, a member of Pyusawti Militia from Inmati Village, along with weapons, defected to No. (12) Yinmabin District PDF. Reportedly, he was rewarded with cash worth 20 lakh MMK. 
  • In Aunglan Township of Magway Region, Naing Win Aung, the junta’s administrator of Dhar Sam Village, was shot dead on Wednesday morning. 
  • In Myaing Township and Pakkoku Township of Magway Region, there were bomb attacks via drone on the junta armed forces on Tuesday morning. 
  • On Monday night, the PDF attacked the junta army in Kamma, killing three junta soldiers. 
  • In Yesagyo Township, there was an attack via 60mm grenade on the junta’s Kyauk Hlekhar Inspection Gate at about 1:00 pm Monday. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died. 
  • In Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army shot dead two people in Pyokan Village on Wednesday morning. In addition, nearly the whole village was set on fire and an elderly woman was burnt to death. 
  • In Myingyan Township, the junta army set fire to Seikgone Village and Thinpyune Village on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, an old woman aged 60 was burnt to death and many people’s houses were burnt to ashes. 
  • In Taungthar Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta army in Zayatgyi Village on 9 March. Reportedly, a junta soldier died. 
  • In Insein Township of Yangon Region, there were simultaneous bomb attacks at the gate of the Air Force Officers’ Housing and the junta’s ward administration office on Tuesday night. 
  • In Kyungsu Township of Tanintharyi Region, there was a local battle in Joetaung Village at 5:30 am Monday. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died. 
  • In Bamaw Township of Kachin State, the junta army shot mortars into Kaung Hsint Village at about 8:00 pm Monday. Reportedly, a man named U Htay Saung lost his life and his daughter was injured. 
  • Together with the UNHCR-Myanmar, the responsible personnel of French Embassy to Myanmar met with internally displaced people in Southern Shan State last week. 
  • Despite the contact of some people who would like to join the revolution forces due to the junta’s military service law, some PDFs cannot accept the new members because of financial difficulties. 

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) 

  • On 11 March, the MNDAA reopened Chin Shwe Haw and Kyin San Kyauk, the two trade zones on China-Myanmar border which they had seized during the 1027 Operation. 
  • In Rakhine State, the Arakan Army took control of the junta’s Aung Thabye Border Guard Camp on Rakhine-Bangladesh border. 
  • In Minbya Township, the junta army killed more than 30 civilians from 13 November 2023 to 23 January 2024. 
  • In Nyaunglebin District of Bago Region, the junta army invaded local villages, took away public’s belongings, set fire to houses and shot mortars on the morning of 9 March. According to the Karen National Union, six houses were damaged. 
  • In Myawaddy Township of Karen State, the combined force of Karen National Liberation Army took control of the junta’s Ka-Ma-Ya (355) based in Thingan Nyinaung. Reportedly, many junta soldiers died and 140 weapons including RPGs were confiscated. 
  • In Thingan Nyinaung and Latkhattaung, there has been heavy fighting. Reportedly, the junta army has conducted aerial bombings via fighter jets. 
  • In No. (1) Special Region of Shan State, the 35th anniversary of Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army was celebrated. 
  • In Karenni State, 25 civilians lost their lives due to mortar and air attacks by the junta army in February, according to Karenni Nationalities Defence Force. 
  • In Hpasaung of Karenni State, the military junta had to let go of all governmental offices in town. Afterwards, the junta army Ka-La-Ya (135) detained civilians in their compound as human shields. 
  • In Sisai of Southern Shan State, there have been a large number of damages due to the junta army. According to Pa-O National Liberation Army, the town has become a ghost town. 
  • On Wednesday, the PNLA announced that it was just false news they had set fire to public’s houses to prohibit the junta army from invading Menetaung Area in Southern Shan State. 
  • In Hpakant Township of Kachin State, Kachin Independence Army attacked 16 junta soldiers who had run away from Tamakhan Camp. Reportedly, two of them including a junta colonel died and 14 others were caught alive. 
  • In Hpakant Township, the KIA took control of the junta’s Than Thone Taung Camp on Wednesday morning. 
  • In Ta’ang Area of Northern Shan State, the TNLA destroyed over 1,000 acres of poppy plantations in Namkham Township from 4 to 12 March. 
  • On Monday night, the KNLA and the PDF managed to seize Falu Camp, which the junta army had controlled for 35 years. The Cobra Column released the photos related to the battle. 

The Military Council 

  • On Tuesday, the military junta adopted the amendment to the law on oil and petroleum products. 
  • On Tuesday, the military junta adopted the amendment to the law on oil hand-drills. 
  • In a meeting on Sunday, the Chair of the junta’s Union Election Commission claimed that they have been trying hard to hold a free and fair election, which is trusted by the public and international community. 
  • According to the junta’s Myanmar Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Myanmar people in Malaysia must get appointments via QR Code for Certificates of Identification (CIs). 
  • According to the junta’s Mandalay City Development Committee, the cable wires running along the roads in Mandalay would be changed into underground ones. 
  • In Hlaing Tharyar Township of Yangon Region, the junta’s YCDC and the junta administrators destroyed shops along Maha Bandula Road in Ward (2) on Tuesday. Reportedly, they conducted the patrol with men holding sticks. 
  • On Tuesday, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh stated that they had been discussing to send back 177 junta members who had run away to Bangladesh. 

Summary on 14 March 

  • In the areas with powerful EAOs, there have been heavy battles against the junta army. Despite the support of air force, the military junta has had a great loss on the ground and their soldiers have had to run away. 
  • With a great military loss in Rakhine State, the junta army has targeted civilians in their attacks and they have openly committed war crimes.
