Spring Revolution Daily News for 20 April 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • On 16 April, the Drone Unit of the White Tiger Column under the People’s Defence Force (PDF) conducted an attack on junta troops on the way to Myawaddy in Karen State. Reportedly, no less than 15 junta soldiers died.
  • At 10:00 am Thursday, the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration conducted their meeting (15/2024).
  • At 3:00 pm Thursday, there was a meeting (13/2024) between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration from Sagaing Region and Magway Region.
  • In the north of Gantgaw Township and the south of Kalay Township, the junta’s oppression is getting worse and worse in the villages of Pyusawti Militia. Reportedly, a large number of local people have sought refuge in the People’s Administration-NUG.
  • In the 2024 Youth Forum of the United Nations, Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the UN U Kyaw Moe Tun presented that young people have had to hide in Myanmar and run abroad, feeling lost, due to the junta’s recruitment by force.

Revolution Activities

  • In Kyone Doe Township of Karen State, there has been fighting between the junta army and a combined force of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) starting from Friday morning. Consequently, local people have had to run away.
  • According to a report by Burma Affairs and Conflict Study – BACS, over 220 out of 5,000 youth in the first batch of the military service have been taken away by force for recruitment.
  • Central Young Lai Association (CYLA ) released a warning that fuel oil and consumers’ goods from Lawngtlai District of Mizoram State in India are not to be exported or sold to Myanmar.
  • On Thursday, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers issued a statement, calling for an immediate stop to the fighting in the border areas of Myanmar.
  • At 2:00 am Wednesday, the PDFs conducted an attack with projectiles on Tada-U Air Force in Mandalay Region.
  • In Mingaladone Township of Yangon Region, Dark Shadow Urban Guerrillas carried out attacks via grenades on the residence hall of unmarried air force officers and the office of the Union Solidarity and Development Party.
  • In Kamma Township of Magway Region, there was a mine attack on the junta soldiers in front of a convoy on their way back after sending rations to Chin State. Reportedly, two junta members died.
  • In Myitkyina Township of Kachin State, there was an attack via projectiles on the junta’s Nampaung Air Force Unit on Friday morning.
  • In Ayadaw Township of Sagaing Region, the Spring Messengers supported a meal for a day at Kanile IDP Camp.
  • In Dibeyin Township, the displaced people were fed with refreshing drinks.
  • In Yinmabin Township and Salingyi Township, Burmese Students’ Union provided a meal to the displaced people on Friday.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • In an interview with the Reporters from Thailand, the spokesperson of Karen National Union (KNU) stated that they would not negotiate with the military junta and they would keep fighting for complete control of Myawaddy Town.
  • New Mon State Party (Against Dictatorship) called on Mon people, Mon Revolution Forces and Mon political groups to fight together with the strength of unity.
  • In Kyaik Mayaw Township of Mon State, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and the NMSP (AD) on Friday morning.
  • For smooth transportation in the rainy season, Danu People’s Liberation Front and local people repaired the streets connecting villages and the ones in villages.
  • In Sisai Township of Southern Shan State, the junta army shot at two people on a motorbike travelling on Loikaw-Sisai Road. According to Pa-O National Liberation Army, one of the men lost his life.

The Military Council

  • In Sisai, a junta soldier named Nyi Nyi Naing from Ka-Ma-Ya (423) threatened a displaced woman with a gunshot and attempted to commit rape.
  • The military junta, via representatives, asked Colonel Saw Chit Thu, who has formed the Karen National Army from the Karen Border Guard Force, to give back the weapons supported.
  • The junta’s spokesperson Major General Zaw Min Tun claimed that it was just the false news of an Indian media outlet saying an Islamic group had arrested 1,600 Hindus and 120 Buddhists in Buthi Taung Township of Rakhine State.
  • In Wetlet Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army fired heavy weapons on Thit Sait Gyi Village. Reportedly, a woman lost her life and another one got injured.
  • On social media, it was written that the electricity bill would increase after Thingyan. Regarding it, the junta’s Ministry of Electricity stated that they had no plan to do so for the time being.

Summary on 20 April

  • As usual, the military junta tried to cover up the fact that they had equipped some Muslims with arms in Buthi Taung Township to set fire to houses together and arrest local people. They then accused of the Arakan Army (AA) falsely. No matter what, it is said among the public that they have to take the opposite of what the military junta says.
