The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • The NUG stated that they strongly object to any forms of threat to media people. They added that they would make an effort to combat such activities and protect the press people.
  • On World Press Freedom Day, the NUG stated that press freedom plays a vital role in the right to information and the promotion of critical thinking. They also strongly protest against any kinds of restrictions or barriers against press freedom.
  • In a meeting of Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration, Union Prime Minister emphasized the instruction to keep systematic records of financial spendings.
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magway Region, a junta police sergeant named Nanda Kyaw from Kamma Police Station, along with weapons, defected to Myaing Township People’s Defence Force.

Revolution Activities

  • According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, the military junta has confiscated over 1100 pieces of property belonging to democracy activists and civilians such as houses, schools, religious buildings and businesses over the period of the coup for more than three years.
  • In Kawkarait Township of Karen State and Kyaik Mayaw Township of Mon State, the military junta has been calling on the local people to return home. However, most of the residents have not done so yet.
  • In Monywa Township and Chaung-U Township of Sagaing Region, 23 junta soldiers died in local battles in April.
  • In North Okkalapa Township of Yangon Region, the youth conducted an anti-junta movement at a school on Friday morning, hanging a banner – ‘The revolution is not over yet’.
  • Within a few hours after the amnesty, the military junta rearrested Dr Hkalam Samson, former Chair of Kachin Baptist Convention. Regarding it, the KBC released a statement on Friday and expressed their wish that he would be with his family as soon as possible.
  • According to Reporters Without Border, 62 media people have been imprisoned in Myanmar and it is one of the highest numbers in the world.
  • In Oatpho Township of Bago Region, a hundred-household leader and allegedly local Pyusawti leader, who had been recruiting for the junta army by force, was shot dead.
  • In Pale Township, a social group supported culinary and food items to 13 households of fire victims.
  • A combined rally of Yinmabin and Salingyi protested against the military dictatorship.
  • In Magway Region, the junta police left Latpanto Oil Field, which can produce 400 barrels per day. After that, the PDFs took control of the area.
  • Dr. Tay Zar San, a key leader of the public’s protests, called for responsive action against ineffectiveness and inefficiency of the administration and security forces under the NUG.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • In Maungtaw, the Arakan Army attacked and seized No. (1) Border Guard Camp Kyigan Byin Headquarters. According to local people, the AA also took control of the town.
  • Ta’ang National Liberation Army called on the public to contribute to human resources and technical expertise for better administration and public services.
  • In Mount Dawna, there has been daily fighting between the junta’s Aung Zayya Column, allegedly on the way to Myawaddy, and the revolution forces.

The Military Council

  • In Ye-U of Sagaing Region, the junta army has arrested about 50 young people for military service. Reportedly, they have detained the youth in No. (1) Basic Education High School.
  • After the military coup, thousands of civilians and hundreds of Myanmar soldiers have crossed the border to India. Reportedly, the Indian government sent back 38 Myanmar refugees for the first time.
  • The junta Ministry of Labour suspended the overseas employment of men starting from 1 May. Regarding it, they did not issue official statement and just gave oral instruction to employment agencies. The military junta approved of the demand letters dated only until 30 April.
  • In Zaycho Market of Mandalay, a member of the junta Municipal Staff allegedly raped a girl aged 14.
  • According to Indian Embassy to Myanmar, the Indian ships named Saryu and LCU58 arrived in Myanmar to combat drug dealing, human trafficking and illegal fishing in the Andaman Sea.

Summary on 4 May

  • The junta army seized power by force. They also oppressed the press people and media outlets. So far, 62 media people have been in detention. On the other hand, the military junta claim that every piece of news by the media outlets is false information. They then create fake news intentionally.
