A junta airstrike on Tarunaing Village in Paletwa Township, Chin State killed five people, two of whom were women and injured a further 10 people.

The airstrike by a jet fighter hit Tarunaing Village, which is under Arakan Army (AA) control, at about 4:00 pm on 21 May, despite there being no fighting in the area, according to a local resident.

They said: “The attack occurred when the local market was crowded. One residential house and a shop were also destroyed and set on fire. Most of the injured people were seriously hurt and are receiving medical treatment.”

Tarunaing Village has over 100 households and has been under AA control since 4 December when it seized the junta hill camp in the village.

Previously, also in Paletwa Township, a junta airstrike on Hone Village on 29 January 2024 killed seven villagers.
