Spring Revolution Daily News for 1 June 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In memory of the 21st anniversary of Kyi Village Uprising, Ye-U People’s Defence Force (PDF) conducted bomb attacks via drone on the junta armed forces stationed in Attaw Village and Thegone Village of Taze Township in Sagaing Region at about 1:00 pm Thursday.
  • At 10:00 am Thursday, the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration conducted a meeting.
  • In Tamu Township of Sagaing Region, Local Public’s Administration destroyed over 100 packets of Mandalay Rum, the junta’s product confiscated in the area.

Revolution Activities

  • In Yinmabin North of Sagaing Region, a rally of ‘Let’s Never Get Back in This Revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Wetlet Township, a combined rally protested against the military dictatorship, calling for a stop to the sale of jet fuel to the military junta.
  • On the bypass of Monywa, there was an attack on the junta army on patrol on Thursday morning. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died and 4 guns were confiscated.
  • In Kalay, there was a shooting in Taung Zalat Ward on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, Ko Dimo, the second commander of Kalay PDF Mine Force, was killed.
  • On entrance to Monywa, there was a mine attack on the three junta soldiers coming into the mine field near Monyway Inspection Gate on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, all of them died.
  • In Shwebo Township, a combined rally saluted a martyr and marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Minkin Township, there were attacks on the junta armed forces invading the area on Wednesday. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers.
  • In Banmauk, a second sergeant from the junta’s Ka-Ma-Ya (8) defected to a local PDF on the night of 24 May.
  • In Gantgaw Township of Magway Region, the junta soldiers and Pyusawti members killed Ko Zin Myo Win, a mentally-ill man aged 35, by cutting off his head, and set fire to the public’s houses in Myauk Khin Yan Village on Thursday morning.
  • In Pakkoku Township, there was an attack on a junta car between Ashay Bone Kan Village and Methway Lake on 27 May. Reportedly, a junta soldier was caught alive with 2 guns and weapons whereas his injured officer ran away.
  • In Kyauk Dagar Township of Bago Region, there were local battles for four consecutive days on 26 May. Reportedly, 35 junta soldiers died whereas 2 PDF members lost their lives.
  • In Yebyu Township of Tanintharyi Region, two CDM teachers were each sentenced to 10 years in prison on 28 May.
  • There was a meeting between the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General to Myanmar Julie Bishop and the US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield. Reportedly, they discussed Myanmar affairs.
  • According to Justice for Myanmar, iMyanmarHouse, a real estate website owned by Australia, removed their posts related to the project of Myawaddy New Town after a report had been issued regarding that project of the Karen Border Guard Force/ Karen National Army.
  • The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners stated that 22 women had lost their lives in May due to the junta’s airstrikes.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • According to Karen National Union, nearly 500,000 people have had to run away in Karen State due to the junta’s attacks since the military coup.
  • The Arakan Army, which has seized the town of Buthidaung in Rakhine State, released 31 political prisoners from the local prison. They will also recheck the crimes and the punishment of other 67 prisoners.
  • In Matupi of Chin State, local CDF attacked and took control of the junta’s District Office on Thursday morning.
  • On 26 May, local people welcomed the members of the revolution forces on their way back after seizing the towns of Tunzan and Kyikar on 26 May.
  • In Ngaphe Township of Magway Region, CDF Asho conducted an attack at close range on the camp of the junta’s Ka-Pa-Sa (14) on Thursday morning.
  • In Sisai Township of Southern Shan State, the junta’s Pa-O National Organization arrested and killed a traveler on 29 May. They then fired mortars into local villages and over 1000 people had to run away, according to Pa-O National Liberation Army.
  • In Loikaw Township of Karenni State, there have been battles between the junta armed forces invading the area and the defence forces.
  • Pa-O National Liberation Army announced on Friday afternoon that they had not been collecting money in Menetaung Area of Southern Shan State to procure weapons.

The Military Council

  • The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing claimed that Pyin Oo Lwin must be implemented as a City of Health, which can provide healthcare.
  • To combat online fraud gangs via the cooperation between the two countries, the junta’s Minister of Foreign Affairs met with the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar on 30 May.
  • According to the junta’s committee, they have been carrying out surprise checks to fuel shops to see if those stations have been selling the right quality and the right quantity in accordance with fixed prices and other guidelines.
  • On Thursday, the junta’s Trade Department issued the list of goods, which are allowed to be stored in customs warehouses.
  • On Thursday, the junta’s Trade Department stated that imports are not to be made without import permits.
  • On 12 June, there would be a hearing from both sides related to Residence (54) on University Avenue in Yangon.
  • On 29 May, the US dollar was worth nearly 4,700MMK in the local market. According to the junta’s Central Bank, there were only 116 sellers of the Dollar, Baht and Yuan via the Online Trade Platform whereas there were 433 buyers.
  • On Friday, the junta Central Bank announced that they had sold 5 million USD and 5 million Yuan to importers and exporters.
  • The junta’s Ministry of Construction instructed the collection of higher fares from road and bridge users throughout the country.
  • The Russian Government approved of a bill on the principles related to setting up a mini nuclear reactor in Myanmar.
  • On Friday, Myanmar Rice Federation announced that Emata Rice would be sold at 58 retail shops in Yangon for 3,000 MMK per 8 tin cups.
  • According to the junta’s Ministry of Education, nearly 6 million students have been registered for basic education schools for 2024-25 academic year until 30 May.
  • In Sittway Township of Rakhine State, up to 10 people have been killed by the junta army in Byaing Phyu Village until 30 May and no less than 50 others have been arrested. Reportedly, all the local people have had to run away from home.

Summary on 1 June

  • To combat online Kyar Phyant gambling and continue Chinese projects, the junta’s Foreign Minister met with Chinese Ambassador. China put pressure on for such a meeting. In reality, the junta officers have been involved one way or another in online gambling businesses. So, it can be said that the whole military junta is just a national criminal gang.
