Chin defence forces captured the Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 304 base in Matupi Town on 17 June 2024 and seized howitzers and ammunition.

During the battle for the base the junta suffered significant losses and defence forces also suffered casualties but, so far, no casualty numbers have been released.

The base was seized as part of a defence forces offensive aimed at capturing all of Matupi Town which was launched on 9 June by a combined force of the Chin Brotherhood, the Arakan Army (AA), and the Yaw Army. They have already captured significant junta targets in Matupi Town, including Matupi Police Station and the Matupi Township General Administration Department Office.

Intense fighting is ongoing in areas of Matupi Town and Matupi Township as the defence forces target the Infantry Battalion 140 base in Matupi Township and other junta outposts in the area.

The LIB 304 base was a junta stronghold in the region and troops from there had destroyed a large Chin Christian Cross at Botahlang Mountain, which was of cultural importance to the Chin community. Local people said that the taking of the LIB 304 base by defence forces was a “notable achievement”.
