2,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) in Sagaing Region’s Tabayin Township are in dire need of rice and other food, according to locals.
The IDPs from Ye-U, Shwebo and Butalin townships in Sagaing Region were forced to flee their homes when junta troops raided their villages. Currently, it is not safe for them to return home.
The IDPs, who have no sources of income or food, are finding it hard to afford rice and there are difficulties transporting rice to them.
The Tabayin Township Displaced People Support Group is trying to get food for the IDPs in the township to alleviate their immediate needs. On 1 October it distributed a portion of rice, a bottle of oil and 100,000 kyats with which to buy food to each of over 400 IDPs.
