The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) released a statement on 18 November telling all Chinese citizens in Laukkai Town in northern Shan State to immediately return to China for their own safety.
MNDAA spokesperson Li Kyarwin said: “We are issuing this notification before we launch an operation as there may still be Chinese citizens in Lukkai Town, though we don’t know exactly how many.”
Chinese migrant workers in Laukkai who no longer have work have been trying to return to China, but they have been prevented from doing so by junta airstrikes, travel restrictions and ongoing fighting.
The MNDAA statement also warned civilians to keep their distance from junta administrative offices and military bases in Laukkai. It warned that there could be fighting in any area of the town and advised residents to move away to avoid potential junta artillery attacks
