Spring Revolution Daily News for 27 December 2023

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· The Spring Development Bank of the NUG announced that it would open a branch in Kawlin Town which has been seized by revolutionary forces and PDFs.

· According to the Ministry of Defence- NUG, there was an attack on the junta army invading Thabaitgyin Township of Mandalay Region. Reportedly, there were casualties among the junta soldiers and the weapons were confiscated.

· The NUG announced that it would take legal action against the military junta at the International Court for firing heavy weapons at the ancient cultural heritage in the town of Mrauk-U.

· The Acting President of the NUG stated that the members of the government must be more diligent and dedicated so that they are more successful in 2024.

· In Kawlin District of Sagaing Region, responsible personnel of Wuntho Township People’s Administration met with displaced people and provided support on Monday.

Revolutionary Activities

· On the border of Bago Region and Kayin State, PDF Thandaung blew up a bridge on the Taungoo-Laittho Road.

· In Nattalin of Bago Region, the junta army invaded local villages in the upper part of the Taungnyo Dam reservoir and killed 7 civilians by setting fire to them when their hands were tied behind their backs.

· In Boatpyin Township of Tanintharyi Region, two migrant workers were stepped on by a wild elephant. Reportedly, one of them died.

· On the border of Gantgaw Township in Magwe Region and Chin State, a combined force of ZZLMS attacked the junta army stationed at the Myitthar Pyinthar Dam. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers died.

· According to UNICEF Myanmar, 8 million children in Myanmar have are in need of protection due to the increase in fighting and rights violations all over the country.

· In Kyaukgyi Township of Bago Region, a combined force of the Karen National Union/ Karen National Liberation Army, All Burma Students’ Democratic Front and PDFs started to attack Natthangwin Town on Tuesday.

· In Shwebo Township of Sagaing Region, there were bomb attacks via drone on the junta’s General Administration Department, Road Transportation Administration Department and the Court on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, there were casualties.

· In Myaung Township of Sagaing Region and Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, local PDFs conducted bomb attacks via drone on the junta troops and stations.

· In Yinmabin Township, a combined rally of Youth’s Strength, Strike Committee and CDM students protested against the military dictatorship, raising a banner that said: “China: Stop Killing Myanmar People by Supporting Fascist Criminals”

· In the Latbadaung Taung Area of Salingyi Township, local people expressed their desire with a banner that said: ”China: Stop Killing Myanmar People by Supporting Fascist Criminals”

· In Kani Township, the members of the Strike Committee conducted a public federal talk and showed a revolutionary film in a village.

· In Kyan Khine Township of Ayeyarwady Region, a local strike committee expressed its objections to the military dictatorship by holding anti-junta signs.

· In Hpakant of Kachin State, a combined rally protested against the military junta and the Chinese government.

· In Hsin Baung We Township of Magwe Region, there was a mine attack on a junta convoy of 3 cars on the Koebin-Tharkaya Road. Reportedly, 15 junta soldiers died.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· On Monday, the Arakan Army (AA) announced that it would take revenge on the military junta for having intentionally destroyed Mrauk-U, a culturally important town.

· The Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance called for the attacks on nearby junta camps to fulfill the aspiration of the public and seize weapons.

· In Ledo Township and Sawti Township under the Karen National Union in Kayin State, the junta army shot mortars into villages. Reportedly, two people including a child got injured and a house was damaged.

The Military Council

· Due to Chinese negotiations, there was the second meeting between the military junta and the Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance in Kunming, China from 22 to 24 December. Reportedly, it failed and there was no agreement.

· To the east and south of Mandalay Moat, the military junta has blockaded the streets to celebrate the New Year.

· In the past, the export income had to be brought home within 45 days from Asian countries and within 90 days from countries outside of Asia. However, it was reduced to 30 days and 60 days respectively.

· The YESC announced on Tuesday that there would be power outages for a week in some townships of Yangon Region due to repair work at the Yadanar Off-Shore Gas Pipeline.

· In the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Meeting, the junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing called for the provision of assistance among member states.

· The junta leader thanked China for providing support to build the National Center on Preventing Communicable Diseases and Training in Naypyi Taw.

Summary on 27 December

· In a liberated area, the NUG managed to open a bank branch. In addition, they were able to seize the junta’s camps. There might be new challenges as well as more turning points in military and politics in 2024.

· With a great losses in battles throughout the country including northern Shan State, the military junta has had to rely on China to stop the warfare. Therefore, the junta leader thanked China.
