Spring Revolution Daily News for 28 December 2023

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· At one of the interim public-based schools under the Ministry of Education- NUG, an event was held in honor of the teachers along with the prize-awarding ceremony. Reportedly, more than 700 people joined it.

· At 10:00 am Tuesday, there was a meeting between the People’s Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG and the People’s Security Forces from Sagaing Region and Magwe Region.

· At 1:00 pm Tuesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration and Township People’s Administration from Yangon Region.

· The Acting President of the NUG Duwa Lashi La stated that all the members of their government must make an effort to gain more successes in the upcoming year and they must bring silence, victory and joy to the public.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Hommalin Township of Sagaing Region, the military junta has been conducting an offensive to regain the town of Shwe Pyi Aye. According to a local PDF, there has been constant heavy fighting.

· In Pale Township, 3 people from Inmati Pyusawti Village managed to run away and asked permission from the local PDF to defect.

· In Mrauk-U of Rakhine State, a total of 4 people including 3 displaced children lost their lives and 4 others were injured at the religious hall due to mortars fired by the junta army.

· In a village of Yinmabin District, a combined rally marched on Wednesday morning in memory of a hero named Pho Chan (alias) Chan Myay Kyaw who lost his life 2 years and 9 months ago.

· In Kathar Township, the junta army carried out aerial bombings on two villages including Moetarle Village. Reportedly, a PDF member and a woman lost their lives whereas 10 people including a child were injured.

· In Northern Yinmabin Township, a local rally of ‘Let’s never get back in this revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.

· In Natoegyi Township of Mandalay Region, the local PDF arrested a gang of people extracting timber secretly in cooperation with the military junta from Min Sone Taung Natural Reserve. They also burned a vehicle carrying timber.

· In Myingyan Township, a combined force of PDFs conducted a bomb attack via drone on Pyusawti Militia in Kyaukkan Village. Reportedly, 2 junta members died and 5 others were seriously injured.

· In Thabaitgyin Township, the junta army carried out an air strike on Chaunggyi Village on the Moegoke-Mandalay Road without any battles. Reportedly, local people had to run away.

· In Kyaukgyi Township of Bago Region, there has been heavy fighting in the town of Natthangwin. According to local people, 4 children and a civilian lost their lives due to the air attack of the junta army.

· In Insein Township of Yangon Region, there was a bomb explosion near Insein Central Prison on Wednesday afternoon. Reportedly, some parked cars got damaged.

· In Kawa Township of Bago Region, the junta administrator of Thayetgone Village was shot dead while he was taking security measures at Ywardawshin Ritual.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· The Arakan Army (AA) announced that they had gained control of the District Police Station in Mrauk-U Town amidst the aerial attacks of the junta army.

· The Lion Battalion Commando declared that they had officially turned into a troop under the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade (6).

· In Kyaukgyi Township of Bago Region, a combined force led by the KNLA took control of 3 junta camps in the town of Natthangwin. Reportedly, 20 junta soldiers died and 19 weapons were confiscated.

· In Thatone Township and Beelin Township of Mon State, the junta army fired heavy weapons at local villages. Reportedly, a pregnant woman lost her life and thousands of people had to run away.

The Military Council

· In Maha Aungmye Township of Mandalay Region, the junta’s vehicle inspection team opened fire, injuring a nurse.

· At a time of heavy battles in Rakhine State and Northern Shan State, the military junta signed with China the supplementary agreement related to the deep sea port of Kyauk Phyu Special Economic Zone in Naypyi Taw on Tuesday.

· According to the junta’s Mandalay City Development Committee, New Year 2024 will be celebrated at the corner of 26 Street and 66 Street in the southeast of Mandalay Moat starting from 6:00 pm on 31 December.

· Dr. Soe Win, the junta Minister of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, went to the Early Child’s Intervention and Development Center in Yangon and inspected the training of nursery teachers.

· On behalf of the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, the second junta leader Soe Win was present at the military performance of the graduation and the dinner for the Military Nursing Academy Batch (21) and Women Nursing Academy Batch (8).

Summary on 28 December

· On the ground, a large number of junta soldiers gave up arms when the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army entered Lauk Kaing. On the other hand, the military junta destroyed the town by conducting air strikes on civilian targets.

· Amidst a great losses in battles and a large number of fatalities among the grassroots-level soldiers, the junta leaders enjoyed themselves at funfairs throughout the country.
