Spring Revolution Daily News for 29 December 2023

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· In Kawa Township of Bago Region, a local leader of the Pyusawti Militia from Thayetgone Village died whilst being arrested by a PDF.

· In Salingyi Township of Yinmabin District in Sagaing Region, the local People’s Administration went to the local hospital under the Ministry of Health- NUG and provided support to patients who had been injured by mines.

· Together with the weapons, a second sergeant from the junta army based in Titain of Chin State Ka-La-Ya (269) defected to Pale Township PDF.

· On Wednesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administrations from Mandalay Region and Magwe Region.

· According to the Southern Military Region of the NUG, a combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) carried out an operation for Natthangwin. Reportedly, they have been able to control the town.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Ngazun Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army raided Tandabin Village and arrested two local people accusing them of being PDF members.

· In Wandwin Township, local PDFs fired mortars to the junta’s Pintale Police Station.

· In Sintku Township, the junta administrator of Nga Pyin In Village, allegedly a drug user and dealer, was shot dead.

· In Kanty District of Sagaing Region, the junta army has been invading Shwe Pyi Aye Town seized by the PDFs since 25 December. They have also conducted air strikes.

· In Northern Yinmabin Township, a local rally of ‘Let’s never get back in this revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship.

· On Thursday morning, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin protested against the military dictatorship, chanting anti-junta slogans.

· In Magwe Region, there was a bomb attack from a drone on the junta army on their way out from No. (101) Army based in Pakkoku. Reportedly, there were casualties among junta soldiers.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· The Three Brotherhood of the Northern Alliance called for more effort to fulfill the desire of the whole public in Myanmar in the new year.

· In Nammatu Township of Northern Shan State, some junta troops retreated on Wednesday night due to the attacks by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army. Reportedly, other junta troops which had been scattered in the area also ran away.

· At 4:00 am Thursday, the TNLA gained complete control of Nammatu Town in Shan North. Reportedly, they confiscated a large number of weapons including mortars.

· In the capital of the Kokang Area; Lauk Kaing, the junta army and militias gave up arms. Afterwards, the alliance of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) were able to control almost the whole town.

· According to the MNDAA on Wednesday night, at least 65 civilians lost their lives and 66 others were injured in Kokang, the Special Administrative Zone (1), due to the indefinite firing of mortars by the junta army from 27 October to 23 December.

· In Thatone Township under the Karen National Union Brigade (1) in Mon State, a pregnant woman lost her life, a child was injured and thousands of local people had to run away as the junta army fired heavy weapons.

The Military Council

· On Wednesday, there was a meeting between the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing and a delegation led by the director of cooperative operations from Thai Royal Army in Naypyi Taw. Reportedly, they discussed the crackdown on tele-gambling and frauds near Myawaddy.

· The junta Minister of Immigration instructed their staff to collect household lists in various ways despite lack of stability in some parts of Sagaing Region.

· According to the military junta, they will allow the import of cars built from 2023 to 2024, trucks and mini buses built from 2020 to 2024 and fire engines and ambulances built from 2015 to 2024 in 2024.

· The junta Minister U Aung Naing Oo said that the development of Kyauk Phyu Deep Sea Port would be based on the three principles; public interest, prosperity and natural conservation.

· The junta Minister of Electricity joined the ministerial meeting of the Myanmar-Laos Electricity Cooperation. Reportedly, he also went to the hydro-power project of 1460mw on the Mekong River.

Summary on 29 December

· Since the military coup, the so-called Kyar Phyant or online fraud gangs have entered the border areas helped by the junta’s militias and border guard forces. They have been more daring and given trouble, not only to the regional countries but also to the international community. Under such circumstances, China has started to crack down on those frauds on the border, as has Operation 1027. Again, Thailand asked the military junta to combat Kyar Phyant gangs on the border with them. We would have to watch if the same will happen in Shan State.

· The revolutionary forces have gained control of 80% of Sagaing Region. Consequently, the junta staff have not been able to do any administrative tasks. On the other hand, the junta Minister of Immigration instructed the collection of household lists in any way possible in Sagaing Region. It highlights his lack of sympathy
