Spring Revolution Daily News for 10 January 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· Ministry of Defence- NUG announced that they had equipped the PDF members, who completed the training of the Special Operation Force in the Southern Military Region, with weapons.

· At 10:00 am Monday, there was a meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG and Township People’s Administration Teams from Bago Region, Yangon Region, Ayeyarwady Region and Tanintharyi Region.

· At 3:00 pm Monday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administration from Sagaing Region.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Taung Thar Township of Mandalay Region, local PDFs attacked the junta army at Nat Saunt Power Station. Reportedly, there were casualties among the junta soldiers.

· In Myingyan Township, there was a mine attack on a junta convoy near Pyar Village. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died.

· In Monywa Township of Sagaing Region, there was a battle between local PDFs and the junta members from Nyaung Phyu Bin Police Station.

· In Khin-U Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army in Myin Daung Village retreated to No. (8) Training Unit of Shwebo. The arrested people were freed five days later.

· In Yinmabin Township, a local rally called‘Let’s not get back in this revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Tuesday.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· In Ta’ang State of Northern Shan State, the junta army conducted air strikes on Lashio Township and Namsam Town. According to the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), 9 civilians lost their lives.

· The Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) announced that a policeman from the junta’s District Police Station in Bawlake Township had defected to them on 5 January, along with weapons.

· According to the Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance, the Arakan Army (AA) started to attack the junta’s Danyawady Navy, the largest navy base in Kyauk Phyu of Rakhine State.

· According to PDF Zoland, 3 junta soldiers from Ka-La-Ya (269) based in Titain of Chin State, along with weapons, defected to them.

· In Kyauktaw Township of Northern Rakhine State, about 200 junta soldiers gave up arms in the battle to seize Taung Shay Strategic Camp. According to the AA on Monday night, they also took control of the junta’s Thinkyittaw Taung Camp in Mrauk-U Township.

· The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) stated that 73 civilians had lost their lives and 73 others had been injured due to the junta’s air attacks in No. (1) Special Area from the start of the Operation 1027 to 7 January 2024.

· In Pyin Oo Lwin Township of Mandalay Region, there has been heavy fighting between the junta army and a combined force of the TNLA in Kyaukmele Village.

· According to MNDAA, they will take action against the case in which those in MNDAA uniforms had been hitting the stupa in Lauk Kaing, stimulating religious and racial conflicts. They added that they respect the freedom of religions and they have never given any orders to destroy religious buildings.

The Military Council

· According to the junta’s Myawaddy Media, Major General Moe Aung, the commander-in-chief of the Myanmar Navy, and two Union Ministers were removed from their jobs on Monday.

· In Singapore, 3 Myanmar citizens including a junta arms dealer Kyaw Min Oo faced legal action on 26 December as they failed to declare 508,925 Singaporean Dollars in their possession when they tried to leave Singapore for another country.

Summary on 10 January

· With a great loss in the battles by the Northern Alliance, the military junta had to surrender its regional headquarters in Lauk Kaing.
