Spring Revolution Daily News for 11 January 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· U Kon Min, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration- NUG, went to the town of Kawlin in Kawlin District of Sagaing Region. Reportedly, he supervised the administration during the emergency period.

· On Tuesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim People’s Administration and the Township People’s Administration from Yangon Region.

· The Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management- NUG announced that it had provided education on the reduction of casualties among civilians and had promoted community resilience to over 8,000 people in 23 townships.

· At 2:00 pm Tuesday, there was a meeting between the NUG and strike committees. Reportedly, they discussed the strategies on the public’s movements and military affairs.

· The NUG announced that they would take action against the air strikes and the crimes of the junta army including the bomb attack on the people in Kanan Village.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Minbyar Township of Rakhine State, there has been heavy fighting between the junta army and the Arakan Army. According to local people, the junta soldiers have conducted aerial attacks.

· In Shwebo Township of Sagaing Region, local PDFs shot dead Htay Aung, a Pyusawti leader from Myinsee Village, somewhere near Yangyi Aung Ward in Shwebo.

· In Monywa Township, some junta soldiers were injured fighting against PDFs in Nyaung Phyubin Village. As they were carried to Monywa for medical treatment, they faced a mine attack at close range. Reportedly, there were a large number of fatalities among the junta members.

· In Myothit Township of Magwe Region, Zaw Win (alias) Hmatgyi, the junta’s administrator of Ohngone Village, was shot dead at 6:00 pm Monday.

· In Natoegyi Township of Mandalay Region, there was a battle between local PDFs and the junta army near Say Khin Gyi Village.

· The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Myanmar stated on Wednesday that funds are urgently needed to continue providing humanitarian assistance to internally displaced people from all over Myanmar.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· The Arakan Army (AA) declared that it would sharply take revenge on the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (540), which had killed the residents of Mrauk-U Township in Rakhine State.

· According to the Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance, there are still some military targets, junta camps and cities left to be seized in northern Shan State.

· According to the AA, they have been attacking the last few junta camps around Paletwa so that the whole area of Paletwa can be a region free of the military junta. They added that they had confiscated a large number of weapons from a junta camp near the town.

· In KyarIn Seikgyi and Phayar Thonesu Townships of Kayin State, the military junta can no longer run an administration.

The Military Council

· In Lashio, Kyaukme, Muse, Hsipaw and Moemaik of northern Shan State, families of the junta armed forces and non-CDM staff have left their houses and towns for safety.

· In a statement for the 76th anniversary of Kachin State Day, the junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing mentioned that the government and the Army would join hands with the public for the strong establishment of multi-party democracy.

· Laos, the rotating Chair of the ASEAN, appointed Alounkeo to be the Special Envoy to Myanmar on 1 January. Reportedly, he went to Myanmar in a rush and met with the military junta.

· According to the junta Ministry of Economics and Commerce, exports via all the border trade camps of Myanmar after nine months of the current fiscal year have decreased by over 400 million USD when compared with the same period in the previous year.

· On Tuesday, the seven armed organizations, which signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, met with the junta Peace Committee led by Lieutenant General Yar Pyay in Naypyi Taw.

· On Wednesday, the military junta sentenced Shin Dawei, the director of an award-winning documentary, to lifelong imprisonment, under two charges of anti-terrorism.

· In Mandalay and Yangon, some monks and pro-military people protested against the case in which a member of the MNDAA had been hitting a stupa with a hammer in See Aw Village of Lauk Kaing Township in Northern Shan State.

Summary on 11 January

· The religious extremists or the puppets of the military junta have been silent about the junta’s bomb and heavy weapon attacks on pagodas and stupas, yet they have now taken to the streets to try and trigger religious and racial propaganda.

· The junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing keeps uttering the word- ‘multi-party democracy’. In reality, he has no faith in it and as a result, Myanmar people have had to suffer the terrible military dictatorship.
