Spring Revolution Daily News for 14 January 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In Ayeyarwady Region, Pathein Township PDF announced that a junta soldier without weapons had defected to them.
  • In Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, Township People’s Administration of the NUG and Township Health Team jointly conducted educational talks on disaster prevention from 10 January to 12 January.
  • On Friday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administration from Sagaing Region.

Revolution Activities

  • In Myinmu Township of Sagaing Region, there was a battle between a combined force of PDFs and a junta troop invading Monywa-Mandalay Road.
  • In Minhla Township of Bago Region, Tharyarwaddy District PDF (3802) attacked two junta troops heading towards Bago Mountain Range for two consecutive days.
  • In Tigyaint, the junta army carried out air strikes on the town via three fighter jets on Saturday morning.
  • In Pale Township, five people managed to escape from Zee Phyu Gone Village under the junta’s Pyusawti Militia.
  • In Kantbalu Township, the junta army set fire to two local villages in Tangone Area. Reportedly, 72 public’s houses were burnt.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a local rally named ‘Let’s never get back in this revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Saturday.
  • In Pakkoku Township and Yesagyo Township of Magwe Region, there were bomb attacks via drone on the junta inspection gates. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died.
  • In Ngazun Township of Mandalay Region, there was a battle between the PDF and the junta army invading Hsin Phyu Gone Village. Reportedly, 7 junta soldiers died.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)
At 1:00 pm Saturday, the Three Brotherhood Northern Alliance announced that the military junta had openly violated the ceasefire signed on 11 January.
According to local people, there was a battle near the town of Kyaukme in Northern Shan State at about 9:00 am Saturday, 12 hours later after the bilateral ceasefire.
According to the Northern Alliance, the Arakan Army (AA) has continued to attack the junta’s bases and strategic camps which have been troubling Rakhine people for decades.

The Military Council

  • The junta Ministry of Information announced that there would be legal action against the broadcasting of obscene music videos on social media.
  • There was a meeting between the junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and the Commander-in-Chief of Thai Royal Army. Reportedly, they discussed the eradication of cyber gambling and fraud in Myawaddy on the Thailand-Myanmar border.
  • In Pyi of Bago Region, a rally of extremist monks protested against the MNDAA in Pyi District Stadium in Kittayar Ward.
  • In Yemathin of Mandalay Region, extremist monks expressed objection to the MNDAA.
  • There was a meeting among the Chair and the members of the junta’s Union Election Commission as well as the Special Envoy of the ASEAN H.E. Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun.

Summary on 14 January

  • The military junta violated the ceasefire which they had just signed with the Northern Alliance and attacked the camps of the Alliance. They have always done so in other ethnic areas. In other words, they should not be the military of a nation at all.
