Spring Revolution Daily News for 28 January 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • At 1:50 am Friday, local defence forces attacked the camps of the junta army and Pyusawti based in Karboe Village of Kantbalu Township in Sagaing Region. Reportedly, 15 junta members died.
  • In Sagaing Region, Kalay Township PDF Zone (5) completed their basic military training.
  • In Salingyi Township, Local Public’s Administration provided cash rewards to the junta policemen who had defected to them along with weapons.
  • The PDF Military Headquarters under Ministry of Defence-NUG announced that an alliance of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the PDF had seized the very first camp of the military junta, Kyauktu Camp, in Dawei Township of Tanintharyi Region.
  • On Thursday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administration from Sagaing Region.
  • In the battle to seize the junta police station in Moemait, the revolution forces managed to rescue 35 detainees.
  • The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs- NUG U Moe Zaw Oo, Myanmar’s Ambassador to the UN U Kyaw Moe Tun and a women’s activist Daw Khin Lay met with the students of the US Duke University.

Revolution Activities

  • According to the White Tiger Column of the PDF, the junta army dropped bombs via Y12 plane on the town of Kawkarait in Karen State on Saturday.
  • In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a combined rally of students and local people protested against the military dictatorship.
  • For the war and fire victims from the upcountry region to access job and education opportunities, the S&C has opened the Light of Education Library and a free computer training school.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • On Saturday, Chin National Organization Upper Chindwin Region and National Liberation Army announced that they had formed an alliance.
  • According to KNDF Pekone Zone, they were able to provide guns to Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (1), thanks to the public’s contribution to their fund-raising campaign.
  • On Friday, a local person stepped on a mine in Thein Ngin Village seized by Chin Defence Forces in Titain Township of Chin State.
  • On Friday, Pa-O National Liberation Organization, a signatory of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, announced that they would join hands with peer forces for the end of the military dictatorship and for the establishment of a federal democracy.
  • In Sisai Township of Southern Shan State, Pa-O National Liberation Army attacked and took control of the junta army Ka-La-Ya (424) on Friday.
  • According to Karen National Union, the junta soldiers ran away from their three camps where the junta army had stationed for 28 years.
  • With a great loss in battles in Rakhine State, the military junta had to let go of a strategic camp in Myebone. According to the Arakan Army, the junta army has been destroying the town of Yanbye by air strikes.
  • The Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance stated that the junta army had burnt the weapons at Yaw Chaung Strategic Camp in Myebone Township and the junta soldiers had run away in two military vessels.

The Military Council

  • At the Office of the junta leader in Naypyidaw, the Committee on the Stability, Peace and Rule of Law conducted a meeting. Reportedly, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said that it would need collective effort for the peace and security of the country.
  • U Than Tun Oo, the junta’s Chair of Naypyidaw Union Territory, attended the coordination meeting related to local development for 2023-24 fiscal year and the cricket competitions.
  • Dr. Charlie Than, a junta Union Minister, observed the research papers displayed at the 23rd Arts and Science Research Conference.
  • In the event prior to the 25th anniversary of Myanmar Computer Technicians’ Association, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that it was necessary to build digital social life and digital economic life, along with the awareness that everything can be created with digital technology in the current age.

Summary on 28 January

  • It has been nearly three years since the collective fighting against the military dictatorship got started. Some EAOs came to realize that the NCA is just a made-up story of peace by the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing. So, they began to take part in the revolution. It is necessary for the remaining ones to let go of the fake peace and get involved in the revolution.
