Spring Revolution Daily News for 28 February 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· In a government meeting on Tuesday, the Acting President of the NUG warned that it is necessary to make an effort for more political closeness between the NUG and the revolution forces on the ground.

· There was a meeting between Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and Township People’s Administration Teams from Mandalay Region, Sagaing Region and Magway Region.

· On Monday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administration from Sagaing Region.

· According to No. (1) Military Region under the Ministry of Defence-NUG, there has been heavy fighting in Kalay Township since 21 February. Reportedly, the revolution forces took control of the junta army camps in Satkant Village, Kangyi Village and Kantharyar Village.

· According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, the revolution forces managed to gain control of 60% of Kawkarait Town and HpaAn-Myawaddy Asia Road in the offensive to Kawkait in Karen State.

· Acting President called on every member of the NUG to make an effort to gain the victory like the one of the Operation 1027 by the Three Brotherhood of the Northern Alliance; Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Arakan Army (AA).

Revolution Activities

· In Mandalay, the military junta arrested no less than 10 young people in broad daylight in Nanshay Ara and Aungpinle Ward, giving an excuse of the overnight guest list.

· In Longlone Township of Tanintharyi Region, the DDMSC conducted public campaigns against the military junta in four villages on Tuesday morning.

· In Monywa Township of Sagaing Region, a PDF member was arrested and killed by the junta army. Reportedly, some weapons were confiscated in the incident.

· The PDF members rescued over 140 people; non-CDM teachers and students, in a battle at Kalay University.

· According to Myanmar Network of Political Prisoners, there have been unjust detention and human rights violations against 200 political prisoners and 150 others at No. (1) Police Station in Monywa.

· In Shwebo Township, the junta army has blocked off Mue Canal connecting to paddy fields in Seikkun Village and Tanzin Village. Reportedly, local people have had difficulty finding water to grow summer paddy in about 1,000 acres.

· Yangon Victory Force conducted a bomb attack at Mayangone Township Court in Yangon on Monday night.

· In Longlone Township of Tanintharyi Region, local PDF caught a civilian car, which had been forced by the junta army, carrying police uniforms and other items.

· In Pauk Kaung Township of Bago Region, there was a guerrilla attack on a junta troop contingent. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· In Ponnagyun Township of Rakhine State, 23 policemen from the junta’s police station defected to the Arakan Army on 22 February.

· In Minbya Township, the AA gained control of some parts of No. (9) Military Training School. Reportedly, they have continued to seize the whole camp.

· According to Karen National Union, the junta army set fire to some people’s houses in Kawkarait. Additionally, they conducted drone attacks, damaging many other houses.

The Military Council

· The junta’s Central Bank announced that there would be action against keeping the USD earned legally for more than six months.

· The junta propaganda leader Major General Zaw Min Tun claimed that it was just false news regarding the printing of 20,000-MMK bills.

· Due to the rumours of issuing 20,000-MMK notes in March, more and more people have bought cars and USD. Consequently, their prices have skyrocketed.

· In Kyungsu Township of Tanintharyi Region, the junta’s regional government and Myanmar Renewable Energy Co. Ltd signed an MOU to conduct feasibility studies for power production from hydro and solar energy.

· There was a meeting among the junta’s Foreign Ministers, Ambassadors, Director Generals and the responsible personnel from various departments.

Summary on 28 February

· Giving an excuse for the Military Service Law, the military junta has arrested young people via the overnight guest list. They have freed those who can pay them well. On the other hand, the youth who cannot afford to bribe them have gone missing completely.
