Spring Revolution Daily News for 16 March 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In regards to the current military affairs throughout the country, the Union Minister of Defence- NUG and the Deputy Minister gave a presentation to the Acting President and the Union Prime Minister of the NUG.
  • In the meeting of the United Nations Security Council in New York, United States on Wednesday, Myanmar’s Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun called on the international community to take action to end the junta’s recruitment of Myanmar youth by force.
  • In the meeting of Union Resource Management Committee on Wednesday, Union Prime Minister of the NUG stated that it is necessary to do things with systematic and relevant instructions, which would suit the revolution period when managing resources.
  • On Thursday evening, there was a meeting between the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration-NUG and District People’s Administration from Sagaing Region and Magway Region.

Revolution Activities

  • In Sagaing Region, a combined rally of local villages from Salingyi and Yinmabin marched against the military dictatorship on Friday.
  • In Yinmabin Township, a rally named ‘Let’s Never Get Back in This Revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship.
  • In Myaung Township, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta’s Kyaukyit Camp on Wednesday morning.
  • In Monywa Township, the junta army set fire to Thetge Kyin Kywae Village, starting from Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, nearly 500 houses were burnt to ashes.
  • In Myinmu Township, there was an attack on the junta army stationed in the monastery compound in the west of Wanpyae Village on Wednesday evening. Reportedly, three junta soldiers died.
  • In Wandwin Township of Mandalay Region, a junta administrator of Nyaung Oatphi Village Tract was shot dead at about 6:30 pm Thursday.
  • In Pakkoku Township of Magway Region, a PDF member under diguise of a policeman entered Thargyi Taung Police Station on Wednesday evening. Reportedly, he managed to take away three guns and some other weapons.
  • In Tilin Township, there was an attack on the junta army on their way out from Yemyetni Police Station for food. Reportedly, four junta members died.
  • In Minhla Township of Western Bago Region, the junta army had a great loss in local battles in Bago Mountain Range. Afterwards, their special force led a large number of junta soldiers and they invaded the area again.
  • In Paungty Township, Than Oo, a Pyusawti member in Thitpoat Village, was shot dead at about 7:00 pm Tuesday.
  • In Latbadan Township, five members of Pyusawti Militia were shot dead in Yengan Village and Thayettaw Village on Thursday night.
  • In Taungoo Township, there was an attack via 107mm grenades on the junta’s air force at about 9:00 pm Thursday. Reportedly, two fighter jets were damaged, a junta instructor was seriously injured in the head and an officer, along with three sergeants, were injured.
  • In Yay Township of Mon State, there was an attack on the junta’s inspection gate on Chaungtaung Bridge on Thursday morning. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died and four others were injured.
  • In Karenni State, Karenni Combined Force managed to rescue about 1000 people trapped in Hpasaung with heavy fighting.
  • According to Assistance Association for Political Prisoners, up to 4687 people have lost their lives due to the junta army since the military coup to 14 March 2024.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

  • In KyarIn Seikgyi Township of Karen State, a troop of about 60 junta soldiers led by Colonel Aung Kyaw Soe raised the white flag on Thursday evening and gave up their arms to Karen National Liberation Army in the area under Brigade (6).
  • In KyarIn Seikgyi Township, the KNLA took control of the junta’s strategic camp in Kyaikdone Sub-Township on Thursday.
  • On the border of Myawaddy Township and Thingan Nyinaung Township, the revolution forces led by the KNLA attacked the junta’s Ka-Ma-Ya (357) based on Friday morning. As the junta army fired mortars, three people were hit and lost their lives.
  • In Duplaya District under Karen National Union, the KNLA and their alliance took control of the junta’s Falu Camp. Reportedly, six weapons and a large number of ammunitions were confiscated.
  • In Moemaut Township of Kachin State, an alliance led by the Kachin Independence Army attacked and took control of the junta’s Ka-La-Ya (237) on Thursday afternoon. Reportedly, about 40 junta soldiers died and over 200 weapons were confiscated.
  • There has been heavy fighting at Wanyewan Camp near Laiza, the Headquarters of the KIA. Reportedly, the junta army used air strikes.
  • In Laiza, the second convocation of Kachin State Comprehensive University was conducted on Thursday.
  • In Sisai Township and Hopone Township of Southern Shan State, the junta army used air strikes and heavy weapons on Wednesday morning.
  • In Mudone Township of Mon State, there were mine attacks on the two cars carrying the junta policemen from Kamawet Police Station on Thursday. Reportedly, all the junta members ran away and their cars, weapons, phones and other military items were confiscated.
  • In Minbya Township of Rakhine State, the junta soldiers who had run away from No. (9) Military Training School, arrested, ill-treated and killed the youth along their way. They also planned to murder other people, yet the Arakan Army managed to rescue those victims.

The Military Council

  • The second junta leader Soe Win encouraged the junta soldiers receiving medical treatment at the military hospital in Aungpan of Southern Shan State on Thursday.
  • On Thursday, the junta’s Internal Minister claimed that they had arrested AA members 8 times in groups trafficking drugs.
  • According to the junta’s Ministry of Population and Immigration, passport applicants must obtain the Unique ID first before their application.
  • According to the junta’s Ministry of Economics and Commerce, the border trade between Myanmar and China reached up to over 3.1 billion USD within 11 months and it increased by 324.790 million USD compared to that of the same period last year.
  • The junta Central Bank announced that they would sell 5 million USD via online trading platform to exporters and importers.
  • The junta’s Ministry of Home Affairs claimed that there were no reports to local police stations regarding the social media posts about missing people.
  • There was a plea to Yangon Regional Court with regards to the bid sale of Residence (54) on University Avenue.
  • According to the junta’s DICA, the number of local investors has increased in 2023-24 fiscal year.
  • According to the junta’s Yangon City Development Committee, those who would like to set up pandals in Thingyan Festival can apply for the permit from 15 to 31 March.
  • From the youth who do not want to get involved in the junta’s military training Batch (1) starting from the end of April, the junta administrators have been demanding up to 5 million MMK and replacing them with others.

Summary on 16 March

  • In the areas under a powerful EAO, the KNU, the junta army has had a great loss. Even their officers led their force to raise the white flag and gave up arms. In other words, they have been at a low level, not only militarily but also mentally.
  • The junta administrators and soldiers have been demanding a large sum of money from those who do not want to attend the junta’s military training. It seems like the military service is a source of money for them.
