Seven killed in second airstrike in five days on Saw Township, in Magway Region

Seven people including two children were killed and nine people were severely injured in the second Myanmar junta airstrike in five days on Saw Township, in Magway Region.

In the most recent attack, a junta Mi-2 attack helicopter dropped bombs on Tawma Village in Saw Township at around 3:00 pm on 14 May, killing seven and injuring nine.

An eight-month-old infant and a five-year-old child were amongst the killed and some of the injured are in a critical condition.

A resident of Tawma Village said: “So far, seven individuals, including an eight-month-old infant, and a five-year-old child have lost their lives and nine others have sustained severe injuries. Two houses were completely engulfed in flames, while nine neighboring houses were entirely demolished.”

The helicopter in the attack was operating out of Tada-U Airport, an international airport just south of in Mandalay City, according to reports.

Previously, on 9 May, 16 people were killed and 34 were injured when a junta jet fighter dropped 500-pound bombs on a monastery in Ahkyipanpalun Village, Saw Township.

Local defence forces said that the junta has been conducting reconnaissance operations in Saw Township and the surrounding areas and they warned residents that there may be more airstrikes in the area.
