Spring Revolution Daily News for 18 December 2023

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· According to Southern Military Region, Dawna Column Unit (4) KBDF conducted a bomb attack via drone on the junta’s Mawyawaddy Navy Headquarters based in Ohn Bin Gwin Village of Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region.

· In Kawa Township of Bago Region, local PDF completed their basic military training Batch (4) on 12 December.

· The Ministry of Defence- NUG announced on Saturday that about 30 junta soldiers had died and 2 others had been caught as prisoners of war in fighting at Kampet Town in Tamu Township of Sagaing Region.

· The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) called for the practice of legal action against those who violate the rules of the sanctions on the military junta.

Revolution Activities

· In Kawthaung Township of Tanintharyi Region, the military junta has hired former soldiers and the members of the Pyusawti Militia, giving the excuse that they are needed for security.

· On Friday, the Monywa Public Strike Committee called for the end of the ill-treatment of political prisoners in Monywa Prison of Sagaing Region. They also called on the prison authorities to apologize for their violence.

· In Monywa Township and Butalin Township, the junta armed forces fired heavy weapons, killing a person and burning a house.

· In Yinmabin Township, a combined rally of villages, in cooperation with the locals, conducted a farming strike against the military dictatorship on Sunday morning.

· In Pale Township, the junta army has been invading the area. Consequently, about 10,000 people from 10 local villages have had to run away.

· On their 997th day of protest, a combined rally of Yinmabin and Salingyi expressed their disapproval of the military dictatorship.

· In Sintku Township of Mandalay Region, a local PDF arrested a junta ration vehicle which had taken over 300 bags of rice by force from Shwebo Township of Sagaing Region.

· In Ngazun Township, Natoegyi PDF conducted bomb attacks from drones on the junta army stationed in Aung Chantha Village.

· In Bangkok, Thailand, Myanmar people expressed their objection, in front of the United Nations Office, to the junta’s collection of 2% tax.

· In Longlone Township of Tanintharyi Region, there was a bomb attack by drone on Myoma Police Station where junta members were sharing out the things they had confiscated from two local villages. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· In Sami of Paletwa Township in Chin State, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and the Arakan Army (AA). According to the Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance on Saturday, the whole town had to run away as junta soldiers conducted air strikes and shot mortars.

· On Saturday, responsible personnel from the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) met with members who were injured in Kokang battles.

· In Kachin State, a combined force of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) attacked the junta army taking weapons and rations to the junta’s Kayarwan Camp near Laiza Town.

· According to a communication officer of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), a large number of weapons were confiscated from the junta’s strategic camp in Namsam.

· In Phapun District under the Karen National Union (KNU), there were 62 battles between the junta armed forces and Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade (5) in the first half of December.

· In Namkam, Mantone and Kutkhine Township of Northern Shan State, the TNLA continued to attack junta army camps. They also caught some junta soldiers including colonels who arrived in Namkam by helicopter.

The Military Council

· According to the junta Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, jade mining activities have been suspended in gem mining areas including Phakant in Myanmar.

· According to the junta Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, they have been arranging for the long-term lease of 17 state-owned cotton mills from 3 regions to private businesses.

· Myanmar’s Trade Promotion Team under the Ministry of Economics and Commerce expects that 700,000 tons of corn will be exported before April 2024.

· U Thant Cin, the junta Deputy Minister of Energy and the Chair of the Fuel import, Storage and Distribution Supervisory Committee, stated that the monitoring of fuel oil procurement and use will be implemented using software, as soon as possible.

· Daw Thet Thet Zin, the Chair of Myanmar Women’s Federation, provided food and other consumer goods to junta soldiers who had been injured in battles and who had been receiving medical treatment at the 700-bed military hospital in Pyin Oo Lwin.

· In the junta propaganda newspapers, it was mentioned that the junta regional commanders instructed the locals, administration personnel and municipal staff to clean up respective towns and areas.

· The second junta leader Soe Win met with the junta soldiers, police and militia members who had been injured in battles and their families.

Summary on 18 December

· Without being able to resolve the fuel oil crisis, the military junta claimed that they would monitor the purchase and use of fuel oil. It implies that they will make more trouble for business people and the public.

· Revolutionary forces have seized more and more junta camps. Junta soldiers cannot launch offensives as they have to try hard not to die or to get arrested.
