Spring Revolution Daily News for 19 December 2023

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· The NUG sent a statement for the 2715th Ta’ang New Year, which fell on 16 December.

· In Pinlebu Township of Sagaing Region, there was a meeting between the Township People’s Administration and Ward/Village People’s Administration in a village on Monday.

· In Tamu District, the junta army became disorganized on its way to regain Kanpet Town due to attacks by revolutionary forces. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers were caught and many weapons were confiscated.

· In the Kanbauk Area of Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region, there was a bomb attack via drone on the junta’s Mawyawaddy Navy Headquarters based in Ohn Bin Gwin Village. According to Dawna Column, 5 junta soldiers including the sub-unit commander died.

· In Taungoo Township of Bago Region, there was an attack on the junta army via sniper. Reportedly, a junta soldier died.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Kawhmoo Township of Yangon Region, PDFs shot dead a junta policeman in Kyaiktaw Village.

· In Phapun Township under the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (5), a combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army took control of a main camp belonging to the junta army.

· The President of the Philippines condemned the ongoing civil war in Myanmar. He also called on the ASEAN to deal with the deteriorating violence in Myanmar.

· According to an underground guerrilla on Monday, the members of Special Revolutionary Forces and Underground Guerrillas have come back into Yangon. Reportedly, they have tested mines attached to Bluetooth speakers targeting the junta’s mechanism and pillars.

· In Tontay Township of Yangon Region, there were explosions at a gambling event, which had paid off the military junta. Reportedly, there were casualties.

· In Dibeyin Township of Sagaing Region, the junta armed forces set fire to the houses in 3 villages. Reportedly, over 10,000 people from 13 villages have had to run away.

· In Monywa, there were attacks on the junta soldiers and Pyusawti members for three consecutive days. Reportedly, there were casualties among the junta members.

· In Chaung-U Township, there have been clashes against a junta convoy on their way to send rations to a Pyusawti Village. According to local PDF, they have had to take caution as the junta soldiers have brought nearly 100 people as hostages.

· On their 998th day of protest, a combined rally of Salingyi and Yinmabin expressed their objection to the military dictatorship.

· In Tilin Township of Magwe Region, there was an attack on the junta soldiers stationed in Yemyetni Village. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers including an officer died.

· In Gantgaw Township, the local residents have run away from their Myauk Khinyan Village, known as a Pyusawti village, due to their fear of the junta army and Pyusawti Militia.

· In Madayar Township of Mandalay Region, the military junta arrested an old man aged 80, the father of Regional MP U Min Min from the National League for Democracy.

· More than 250 Myanmar organisations sent an open letter to China caslling on it to stop its support for the junta which will sustain the military dictatorship.

· In Yanbye Township of Southern Rakhine State, there was a battle between the junta army and the Arakan Army (AA) on Monday morning.

· After investigations, the military junta sent the two journalists from Dawei Watch based in Myeik to Myoma Police Station on 14 December. Reportedly, the journalists have been out of contact with their families.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· In Paletwa District of Chin State, there have been many local battles between the junta army and revolutionary forces. Consequently, the number of displaced people has increased to over 30,000.

· On the 52nd day of Operation 1027, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) urged the junta soldiers in Northern Shan State to join the public as soon as possible if they do not want to die.

· In Matupi Township, local CDFs started to attack the junta’s Htewai Camp, which had failed to join the public despite many offers to defect.

· The TNLA announced that they had taken back the town of Namsam from the military junta and handed it back to the Ta’ang people.

· In Ledo Township under the control of the KNU in Kayin State, the junta army fired heavy weapons at local villages for four consecutive days. Reportedly, 3 people died and many houses were damaged.

The Military Council

· According to the junta Ministry of Labor, it will revoke licenses for a specified period of time from those who fail more than three times to submit reports on workers sent abroad.

· U Tin Maung Swe, the junta’s Myanmar Ambassador, expressed thanks to China for helping with stability between the two countries in the border area.

· The junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that they would upgrade the oil refinery in Thanlyin to supply the local demand for fuel oil.

· According to the junta Ministry of Construction, the construction of No. (3) Thanlyin Bridge across the Bago River is 94% completed.

· On Sunday, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing was present at a ceremony where the golden screw was installed on the Bago River Bridge.

Summary on 19 December

· The ethnic armed organisations and the revolutionary forces have given junta soldiers the chance to give up arms and join the public. The junta armed forces must do so as it is a time of great losses and no support from the military junta.

· Without providing any support, the junta leader has just visited factories and given instructions.
