Spring Revolution Daily News for 22 December 2023

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· In cooperation with the Ministry of Labor- NUG, the NUG Representative Offices from Korea and Japan will conduct an educational talk on the affairs of migrant workers at 5:00 pm on 23 December.

· In Gantgaw Township of Magwe Region, the local People’s Administration provided blankets and warm clothes to the displaced people in a village.

· At 1:00 pm Wednesday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administrations from Mandalay Region and Magwe Region.

· On the 35th anniversary of the founding of the United Wa State Party (UWSP), the Ministry of Defence- NUG sent a statement that it would like to join hands for the downfall of the military dictatorship and the emergence of a federal democratic nation.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Thayetchaung Township of Tanintharyi Region, a policeman from Winwa Police Station defected to a local PDF, along with a gun.

· In Myaing Township of Magwe Region, there were bomb attacks from drones on a junta convoy of 24 ration vehicles for two consecutive days.

· In Sagaing Region, a fully-armed policeman named Ko Aye Min (alias) Hmone Gyi from Salingyi Myoma Police Station joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).

· Early on the morning of Thursday, No More Dictatorship PDF attacked the Mandalay Palace compound, where the junta Middle Region Military Headquarters is situated, with a 107mm grenade

· In Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army in Nyaungbin Village moved elsewhere as they had faced a drone bomb attack.

· In Salingyi Township of Sagaing Region, a combined rally of New Strength and local people protested against the military dictatorship in memory of Ko Min Min Htet (alias) Fatty who died six months ago.

· In Wuntho Township, the junta army raided Wingyi Village and set fire to houses.

· In Dawei Township of Tanintharyi Region, there was an attack on a junta inspection gate. Reportedly, 2 junta members died.

· Wang Wenbin, a spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, called for cautious action as there has been ongoing fighting in Northern Shan State despite the announcement of ceasefire.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· In KyarIn Seikgyi Township of Kayin State, Ye Ko Ko, a deputy sergeant from the junta army Ka-La-Ya (283), defected to the Commando Force of the Karen National Union Brigade (6), along with weapons, on Tuesday.

· In Phapun District under the KNU Brigade (5), junta army weapons were confiscated in the battle to seize the junta’s Mologyo Camp on the Salween River Bank.

· In Kutkhine Township of Shan State, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) took control of Nam Khine Bridge and stationed itself there.

· According to the Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance, the military junta has proceeded with its violence against civilians in Rakhine with local battles between the junta army and Arakan Army (AA).

· In Northern Shan State, the KIA attacked and took control of 8 junta camps and some others belonging to the junta’s militia from 19 October to 20 December.

The Military Council

· The junta leader accused superpower countries of stimulating instability in developing countries via racial and religious propaganda.

· In Mon State, 3 junta employees including an administrator and the chair of a social group were arrested by the military junta for supporting the PDF. Reportedly, they have been out of contact with family members.

· According to the junta Tanintharyi Regional Government, a feasibility study will be conducted for an international fishery market project and industrial zone in Myeik with an investment of 300 million USD.

· The junta Embassy announced that Myanmar people working in Japan must pay income tax of between 1,000 Yen and 2,000 Yen.

· According to the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration, over 6,000 companies were removed from the registry in 2023 as they had failed to submit annual reports.

· The junta’s Yangon Regional Hotel and Tourism Department stated that it had implemented 37 local attractions for travelers in Yangon.

Summary on 22 December

· To cover up his stupidity at the time of losing camps and towns one after another, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing blamed powerful countries.

· Tourism has declined due to fighting all over the country. The junta Ministry of Hotel and Tourism led by Daw Thet Thet Khine said that 37 places had been implemented as local attractions in Yangon. In the rule of the military junta, even the residents dare not go out in the evening due to many cases of robbery. Therefore, the program of Hotel and Tourism got a lot of criticism.
