Spring Revolution Daily News for 18 January 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· In Magwe Region, Myaing Township People’s Defence Force (PDF) completed their training on Tuesday.

· From 16 April 2021 to 31 December 2023, the Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risks Management- NUG provided regional humanitarian aid worth 5.01 million USD or 10.51 billion MMK.

· According to the Union Prime Minister Office of the NUG, they have been carrying out activities for food security and access to water in the areas under their influence.

· Acting President of the NUG Duwa Lashi La stated that the neighboring Chinese government has been influencing the political situation in Myanmar.

· In a government meeting on Tuesday, the NUG Acting President Duwa Lashi La stated that it will be forbidden to harm people and property using the excuse of fighting a defensive war.

Revolutionary Activities

· In Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, there was a battle between the junta army and the PDF near Padu Village on Tuesday morning. Reportedly, 5 junta soldiers died.

· In Myinmu Township, local defence forces attacked the junta soldiers in two passenger cars on the Monywa-Mandalay Road.

· The junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (120) based in Wuntho Township has fired mortars into the town of Kawlin. Consequently, the number of casualties has increased. In addition, two people’s houses were damaged.

· On Tuesday revolutionary forces released photos of Tigyaint Town burnt and destroyed by the junta army air strikes and heavy weapon fire.

· In Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, the junta army and Pyusawti Militia have been conducting drone bomb attacks on local villages on the river banks of Ayeyarwady River for no apparent reason. Subsequently, some villagers have had to flee to Sagaing Region.

· Somewhere in Monywa under tight security measures, strike committees and the public marched against the military dictatorship on Wednesday.

· In Yay Township of Mon State, there was an attack on the junta army Ka-La-Ya (106) based in Maw Kanin Village on Wednesday morning. Reportedly, 4 junta soldiers on watch duty died.

· According to People’s Goal, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) shot down a junta’s fighter jet FTC- 2000G.

· On Wednesday, a video was released in which a junta fighter jet crashed as the KIA shot it down in the battle of Nam Phet Kar.

· In Oatpho Township of Bago Region, there was an attack on a junta troop on their way to Gamonesi Hall. Reportedly, 3 junta soldiers died and no less than 11 others were injured.

· In Tanintharyi Township of Tanintharyi Region, Myeik District PDFs attacked the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (561) and a junta’s inspection gate for two consecutive days.

· At some crowded places in Yangon, the Strike Committee conducted an anti-junta movement with posters saying- “Ban Jet Fuel Exports to Myanmar Fascist Dictator”.

Ethnic Armed Organisations (EAOs)

· In Kyaukdaw Township of Rakhine State, the junta army Ka-Ma-Ya (539) from Mount Kansaut, led by their commander, raised the white flag and gave up their arms to the Arakan Army (AA).

· In Kawthoolei Administrative Area under the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade (3), two tanks and an armored vehicle of the junta army were destroyed.

· The public welcomed the members of the Chinland Council, who had won the battle to seize the junta’s Thein Ngin Camp in Titain, with garlands. They then held a public meeting.

· The Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance announced that there had been battles in the areas of Northern Shan State starting from 13 January due to the invasion of the junta army.

The Military Council

· With a team of technical experts, the military junta has been taking action against inappropriate posts and political attacks on the internet.

· According to the junta’s Embassy, Myanmar people in Canada can get started paying their income tax.

· There was a meeting between India and the junta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the stability of the border areas between the two countries.

· For stability on the border of Thailand and Myanmar, there was a meeting between the Chair of the Thai Advisory Board and the junta leader in Naypyi Taw.

· On Monday, 2024 Narga Ethnic New Year’s Celebration was held in Leshi. Reportedly, the junta’s Ministry of Transportation and Communication and other junta members joined the event.

Summary on 18 January

· With great losses in military affairs along the border areas, the military junta has been trying to reduce the momentum of the revolution and get neighbouring countries to put pressure on revolutionary forces.

· Because the military junta has violated the ceasefire on several occassions fighting might resume in Shan North.
