Junta number 2, Vice Senior General Soe Win was seen in public for the first time in nearly a month when he visited injured soldiers at the military hospital in Mawlamyine Town, Mon State on 29 April.

There had been widespread speculation about General Soe Win’s disappearance from public view with rumours suggesting that he had been injured in a drone attack that hit the South East Command headquarters on 8 April whilst he was visiting.

The last time he had been seen in public was on 3 April when he attended a cadet graduation ceremony at the Military Combat Training School (Ba Htoo) military parade ground in southern Shan State on 3 April. He was also noticeably absent from a Military Council cabinet meeting held in Naypyitaw on 22 April, that he would have been expected to attend.

But, he reappeared in public when the junta aligned TV channel Myawaddy TV covered his visit to the military hospital in Mawlamyine on the morning of 29 April where he talked with injured soldiers and members of the medical corps and gave them financial rewards.

During the afternoon General Soe Win met with the chief ministers of Kayin and Mon States, along with departmental officials, in Mawlamyine before meeting with military commanders, according to Myawaddy TV.

At the meeting with the chief ministers and officials General Soe Win talked about relationships with Thailand and border trade in Karen and Mon States, both of which have significant border trade posts. He discussed efforts to stimulate the border trade sector, the collaborative endeavors of the government, and public engagement in maintaining regional peace and stability.

He also addressed issues related to education, healthcare services, and the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to politics, defence, and the economy.

Following that, General Soe Win met with military station commanders and officials at the South-East Command Headquarters, military operations, regional control, and security measures.

Vice Senior General Soe Win is the Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Deputy Defense Services Commander-in-Chief (Army).
