The junta has confiscated 1,159 civilian properties in the three years since the February 2021 coup, according to a 1 May report by the Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).

It said that since seizing state power three years ago in February 2021, the junta has tortured and killed unarmed civilians across the country, who have peacefully protested against the military coup. The military has also arbitrarily arrested civilians and sentenced them to prison under specious charges.

In the same period AAPP also documented the seizure of 1,159 civilian properties, including amongst others, houses, schools, religious buildings and business establishments belonging to 934 civilians. They include strike committee members, pro-democracy activists protesting against the junta, members of the previous government, members of political parties, education staff, people involved in the media, and businessmen.

AAPP said that since seizing power in Myanmar, the junta has been carrying out horrific terror attacks targeting civilians and resorting to all kinds of brutal measures to instil fear among the population.

But, AAPP said that it will continue to document these human rights violations to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their criminal acts, and to put an end to this horrendous tradition of impunity once and for all.

AAPP also urges the international community, including the United Nations, to implement mechanisms that will take effective action against the junta, to end the calamities the people of Myanmar have been facing, as soon as possible.
