Spring Revolution Daily News for 17 December 2023

The National Unity Government (NUG)

  • In Tamu Township of Sagaing Region, there was a local battle between the revolution forces and the junta army invading Kampet Town. According to Ministry of Defence-NUG, over 10 junta soldiers died and 17 weapons were confiscated.
  • On Friday, there was a meeting among officials of Department of State from the United States, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs-NUG and Deputy Minister of Human Rights-NUG.
  • Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw sent best wishes on the 2715th Ta’ang New Year, which falls on Saturday.
  • According to Ministry of Human Rights-NUG, their Deputy Minister U Aung Kyaw Moe met with Ambassador Hameed Opeloyeru, Permanent Observer of the OIC.
  • On Friday, there was a meeting between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public Administration and Township People’s Administration Teams from Sagaing Region.

Revolution Activities

  • In Minbya Town of Rakhine State, a cyclist stepped on a landmine near the junta’s police station on Friday afternoon and lost a leg.
  • In many townships of Yangon Region, there were up to 19 explosions within two days. Reportedly, there were casualties in the incidents.
  • In Paletwa Township of Chin State, there were battles between the junta army and Arakan Army (AA) in the town of Sami. Afterwards, nearly 7,000 townspeople had to run away to near-by villages and the areas near streams.
  • In the west of Kani Township in Sagaing Region, the junta army conducted an air strike on Konetha Village without any battle at 9:30 am Thursday.
  • In Mandalay, the passport applicants have to pay up to 1,000,000MMK to the staff and brokers of the passport office to obtain the passports quickly.
  • In Taungtha Township and Ngazun Township of Mandalay Region, 5 members of Union Solidarity and Development Party were shot dead on Thursday.
  • In the meeting with the ASEAN MPs, Chinese Foreign Minister stated that the current crisis in Myanmar was a matter of home affairs and the key to resolve the conflict is just in the hand of Myanmar people. He added that China would like to join hands with ASEAN to solve the problem of Myanmar.

Ethnic Armed Organizations

  • Via Twitter, Commander in Chief of Arakan Army shared the photo of the AA members celebrating their victory with their flag raised at the junta’s Muse 105 Mile Strategic Camp and the two armoured vehicles confiscated in Northern Shan State.
  • In Namkam of Northern Shan State, Ta’ang National Liberation Army attacked the junta soldiers sent by helicopter whose mission was not to lose their Sakan Thit Camp. Reportedly, the TNLA arrested 4 prisoners of war including the junta’s captains and colonels.
  • The Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance gained complete control of the junta’s strategic camp of Muse 105 Mile. Reportedly, the weapons including two armoured vehicles were confiscated.
  • In Kachin State, Kachin Independence Army (KIA) attacked and took control of the base camp of the junta army and their militia in Tar Law Gyi Village on the other side of Ayeyarwady River from Myitkyina on Saturday morning. Reportedly, they also took control of the village.
  • On Friday, the Three Brotherhood of Northern Alliance announced that the military junta had arrested over 430 civilians as suspecst in the battles which resumed in Rakhine State.
  • In Taungoo Township of Bago Region, local PDF attacked the junta policemen demanding money at 144 Mile on Yangon-Mandalay Highway. Reportedly, a policeman died.

The Military Council

  • The military junta conducted the inauguration ceremony of the two SU-30 fighter jets purchased from Russia in the junta air force on Friday. The junta leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated that those aircrafts would be used in the ongoing battles in the country.
  • In mid-November, the military junta appointed General Kyaw Shwe Tun from the junta Ministry of Defence to be the special officer of the junta Ministry of Economics and Commerce.
  • The junta leader claimed that due to their effort to promote economic growth of the country, the production and the trade flow had improved.
  • According to the second junta leader Soe Win, drugs were confiscated twice at Yangon International Airport due to the information sent from the Indian Customs to Myanmar Customs.

Summary on 17 December

  • Since Operation 1027 got started, the military junta has had a great loss. There have been fatalities among junta soldiers including captains and colonels. In the rule of Min Aung Hlaing, the junta armed forces have been poor in terms of mental and military skills. In other words, they have just become a gang of criminals.
  • Chinese Foreign Minister stated that only Myanmar people would be able to solve the crisis of Myanmar. Therefore, China must put sanctions on the military junta making trouble for the public.
