Spring Revolution Daily News for 19 April 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· In Ayadaw Township of Sagaing Region, Monywa District Force (19) and Township People’s Defence Force (PDF) conducted a area clearance operation in Wadawma Village. As they happened to find money worth 160 lakh MMK at the house of a displaced person, they handed it over to the owner.

· At 1:00 pm Wednesday, there was a meeting (16/2024) between the NUG Central Committee on the Interim Public’s Administration and Township People’s Administration from Mandalay Region and Magway Region.

Revolution Activities

· In commemoration of Myanmar’s New Year, the military junta declared an amnesty for some of the prisoners nationwide. However, according to the Political Prisoners Network Myanmar on Thursday, the political prisoners accounted for only 4% of those who had been freed.

· On 12 April, Dawna Column and an alliance of the revolution forces attacked the junta’s Ka-La-Ya (299) and Ma Hlwe Taung Gate on Mon-Tanintharyi Road Section. Reportedly, five junta soldiers including an officer died and more than 30 others were injured.

· According to Burma Liberation Democratic Front – BLDF, they completed a basic military training of the youth who had joined the revolution forces after the junta’s declaration of the Military Service Law.

· Médecins Sans Frontières expressed their concern for the case in which their office and clinic had been burnt down in Buthitaung Township of Rakhine State.

· In Pale Township of Sagaing Region, Local Public’s Administration and the affiliated groups, on behalf of donors, provided support to the fire victims from I-Yaung Village.

· In Salingyi Township, a social group, on behalf of doners, provided the 203rd meal to the people from four IDP camps.

· In Wetlet Township, Burmese Students’ Union marched to the tombstone of Comrade Aung Kit Man, who lost his life last year, and saluted to him.

· In Pauk Township of Magway Region, local people, protected by members of revolution forces, marched against the military dictatorship in a village.

· In Kyaik Mayaw Township of Mon State, the military junta shot dead the abbot U Wa Ya Ma from Than Kalaung Village. Regarding it, Mon State Federal Council expressed their strong condemnation.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· In Hakha of Chin State, three junta soldiers, along with weapons, defected to a local CDF. Reportedly, they were rewarded financially.

· In Karen State, a combined force of Karen National Liberation Army has constantly carried out guerrilla attacks on junta troops on the way to Myawaddy Township. Consequently, the junta soldiers have not been able to move forward and they have been just at a standstill at the foot of Mount Dawna.

· According to the secretary of Dawei District, a junta soldier, along with weapons, defected to Karen National Union.

The Military Council

· In Dibeyin Township of Sagaing Region, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing on those working on farms near Indan Village.

· Within 24 hours of the release from prison, the military junta re-arrested Dr. Hkalam Samson, former Chair of the Kachin Baptist Convention.

· According to Indian media outlets, some Muslim extremist organizations, armed by the junta army, have arrested thousands of local Hindus and Buddhists in Rakhine State.

· Another 46 junta soldiers and policemen from Border Guard Force ran to Bangladesh. Reportedly, Bangladesh had to detain a total of 260 junta members.

· In Sittway of Rakhine State, the 60th Rakhine Traditional Paying Obeisance Ceremony to the Elderly was conducted at Khine Thazin Hall on Wednesday morning.

· According to the junta’s Trade Department under Ministry of Economics and Commerce, they have allowed the trade using containers from coastal harbor for Myanmar-Thai border trade (Yangon-Kawthaung-Yanaung).

· With a great loss in battles, the military junta has triggered religious and racial conflicts in Rakhine State.
