Spring Revolution Daily News for 28 May 2024

The National Unity Government (NUG)

· On 25 May, the NUG announced that they had suspended the payment fee of 30,000 MMK to recheck the result of Basic Education Completion Assessment.

· In the regular coordination meeting of Committee Representing Pyitaungsu Hluttaw on 24 May, Ministry of Education- NUG was present and reported their current activities and action plans.

· After the second conference, Mon State Federal Council reestablished the administration committee.

· According to Sagaing People’s Defence Force Battalion, they drank the water of oath on their third anniversary of their establishment and at the training completion of snipers.

· On Sunday, Moegoke PDF (1222) released the financial policy on businesses.

· After seizing the junta’s Pho Chi Mu Camp in Kyaikdone of KyarIn Seikgyi Township in Karen State, the combined force of Karen National Liberation Army has taken control of the area along Thai-Myanmar border, from the south of Myawaddy to Three Pagodas Pass.

Revolution Activities

· In Yinmabin Township of Sagaing Region, a rally named ‘Let’s Never Get Back in This Revolution’ marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.

· In Sagaing Township, there were attacks via drone and mines on the junta army demanding money on Sagaing-Shwebo Road and junta troops on their way out from Panya Village in Madayar Township at about 10:00 pm Sunday. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died.

· On 25 May, Sagaing District PDF (3) celebrated their 3rd anniversary of the founding and the training completion of snipers.

· In Kalay Township, over 1,000 packs of the junta’s beer product were confiscated and destroyed.

· On the morning of 23 May, there was a battle between the PDF and the junta army raiding into an old camp of the CDSOM. Reportedly, no less than 10 junta soldiers died.

· In Shwebo Township, a young man was sentenced to death under the accusation of finding phone messages contacting the PDFs.

· In Hlaing Township of Yangon Region, the members of Shinobi hung an anti-junta poster and burnt the book of the 2008 Constitution on Sunday evening. At that time, the junta army arrived and opened fire.

· In Pakkoku Township of Magway Region, local PDFs attacked the junta army stationing in Falam-O Village on Sunday morning.

· In Pakkoku, a member of People’s Liberation Army lost their life in an attack on the junta army on Sunday.

· In Kyaukme Township of Northern Shan State, local PDF stated that they had nothing to do with the explosion at One Love Hotel.

· According to Political Prisoners’ Network Myanmar, 13 inmates including political prisoners in Myitkyina Prison of Kachin State, were sentenced to an additional 3.5 years and kept in solitary confinement for protesting against the junta’s unfair amnesty.

· General Strike Committee announced that they had officially resigned from the joint statement of 195 revolution forces and civil society organizations regarding the situation of Rakhine State.

· Jason Tower, the Director to Myanmar from the US Institute for International Peace (USIP) told the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) that Kyar Phyant businesses have swindled 3.8 billion USD every year in the areas under Karen Border Guard Force of the junta army and the BGF has earned over 700 million USD.

· In Usan in South Korea, a rally of Korean and Myanmar people protested against Myanmar’s military dictatorship.

Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs)

· Chin State Government Ministry of Education managed to draw up the draft on Chin National University Charter for the students to access higher education.

· From Project Mindat (2024), 104,000 USD was earned to equip CDF Mindat with arms.

· In Titain of Chin State, a combined force of CDFs gained control of the junta’s Border and Ethnic Development Department and the police station on Monday morning. Reportedly, 7 junta policemen died and some others were caught alive.

· On Monday, the junta army conducted an aerial bombing on the town of Titain after the battle against the CDF.

· On Sunday night, the combined force of PDF Zoland attacked the junta army based in Titain.

· In Yatsauk Township of Southern Shan State, Restoration Council of Shan State conducted 6 attacks via mine and ambush on the Shan State Progressive Party-Shan State Army. Reportedly, a member of the SSPP died and 3 others were injured.

· In Kyonedo under Karen National Union Brigade (6), a combined force of the PDF and the KNDO conducted a surprise check for security on 25 May.

· In Hpa Kant of Kachin State, the junta army arrested 8 men from Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) in Nga Pyaw Taw Ward on 25 May.

· According to Pa-O National Liberation Army, the junta’s Pa-O National Organization keeps kidnapping some local people and taking their property by force.

The Military Council

· In the meeting in Chauk, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing said that the stupas with internal chambers should be built in hot zones so that local people could take refuge to stay away from heat.

· On 25 May, U Maung Har, a Chin national and an advisor of the military junta (central), passed away in Naypyidaw.

· The junta’s Ministry of Energy stated that they would sell 2 million gallons of petrol to private businesses via tender in June and July.

· The junta’s Central Bank took action against 16 internet pages for selling, buying and exchanging foreign currency online without a license.

· According to the junta’s Yangon Regional Government, rice and other items would be donated to 5,555 monks, an event organized by Vietnam donors at the platform of Shwe Dagon Pagoda.

· In a report by Myanmar Witness on 23 May, the military junta has been building 4 new prisons.

Summary on 28 May

· To control the depreciation of local currency, the military junta announced that they would take action against money changers and online transactions. However, the Myanmar Kyat has continues to decrease in value and the situation is getting worse.
